Thanks!

Might have to take you up on that.
Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.

Hey Kevin,

How would you feel about chucking up a SSS hub/spindle and putting it on a diet?

With all the extra time you have of course...

;D

I could do that. Id measure it up, you tell me what the new numbers should be and ill cut it.

Providing you release me from any liability.  If it snaps off because its too thin and you run into a flatbed carrying running wood chippers ...

I never knew you.

Suppressors.

Kev, make suppressors.

He just needs to apply for a Class 2 SOT and pay the fee and per item tax after being approved.  Takes about 3-6 months total for the background check.  He's in PA and shouldn't have any problem from the local LEO for signoff, the bigger issue is whether the workplace is fully securable, has an alarm, and other active security measures.  Most small Class 2 manufacturers just buy a save and lock finished components up at the end of the day.

SOT?

Our area is locked, of course. The building were in has 24hr security.

I found out a past tenant made variable recoil systems for 50cal snipers. Iron particles in an oil that would change viscosity with electric current. A chip in the stock would monitor recoil and adjust dampening as needed.

Something better came along I guess.

I haven't done a lot or research yet on making firearm parts. Looks like an FFL is in order if we go that route.

SOT = special occupation taxpayer.  The IRS has special taxes for certain occupations, i.e. firearm, tobacco and alcohol manufacturers.  Generally, it's a fee to get the license and then a per-item tax once made.

You only need an FFL if you're making regulated components, i.e. firearm receivers, suppressors or ammunition.  If you wanted to make barrels, you don't need a license, even SBR barrels.. Muzzle devices other than suppressors, non-regulated components like AR uppers, etc.

I can walk you thru it if you're interested.  It's a lot of paperwork.  The security requirements are well above and beyond the regular sort of commercial security.  For instance ONLY the bonded individuals and named employees can have access to the secured area, so if your landlord has access that is disallowed.  That's why most FFls get a big safe.  ONLY the SOT/FFL holder and immediate employees can have access.

I would definitely be interested in learning more about the process. I think we'll do the ffl so Ben can have his suppressor.

I rather be covered to make whatever we want than be limited.

So even with the ffl there's a per piece tax on suppressors?  Cost?

I'm starting to think a good deal of suppressor cost is tax passed on to the end user... who's taxed themselves when they buy it.

I could probably bang (lol, see what I did there?) one out of aluminum for less than $100 in manufacturing and material cost.

you pay the sot tax once a yearin July.  the per item tax is a transfer tax.  buyers usually pay it.

you will need an ffl type 7 and then approval for a  class 2 on top of the ffl.  that's for manufacture only.  to sell to non ffl you need a type 1 ffl.
