I feel your pain.
I keep everything too, the difference is that most stuff I have is junk.
When I got my house, I thought wow a 2100 sq ft garage, I'll never have to worry about room in that.
Nope, filled with junk now!  [laugh]

1980 Darmah SS

Plenty of extra goodies..  PO put a period-correct SD top triple with bars on it, so you can swap between clipons or bars with the original triple.

extra tach, spare oil screen, lots of carb goodies..  it has the Pescaras on and I have a spare set of cored Silentiums.  THe original SS came with the Silentiums installed for noise laws and the Contis in a box.  Original airboxes.  Seatpan is original but the seat is a monopost style Corbin custom seat.

Comes with period Koni shocks and factory stainless lines, period 280mm floaters.

The red color scheme was a one-year deal they did in 1980 for the last run.  The SS came in blue, black or red, but the last year they only had them in red or black.

There are worst hobby's you could have. I was the same way with Computer stuff. Just sold it all and now starting my Ducati collection. I really want a old one to work and lean on any recommendation something low budget.

How old?

Anything pre-belt is going to be very expensive.  You can find a Darmah or a springhead 860 for around 6000-8000 depending on condition, but the prices go up every year.  Plus, parts are scarce and pricey.  A lot of people are buying these bikes and just tearing them down because the parts cost is 2-3x the cost of a whole bike. 

I was tempted to do that with my Darmah SS but I can't.  I could get around 10-12k for the parts alone.  The engine is in excellent shape and still has the wire seal...  the guy who is buying it will be buried with it...

I was thinking 70's - 80's naked of course. Maybe $6k all in when done. Does not have to have big motor just fun around town.

Love the first one I have a soft spot for smaller CC's bikes. What is the best way to find one like that. What should I be looking for Good and Bad?

As far as I can recall, naked Pantahs weren't imported here by Berliner, only larger bevel twins in the late '70's and early 80's. Not a ton of those either. That TL ducatiz must have imported? Or someone else did? Big singles I recall here but no parallel twins.

Honestly, I would say steer clear unless you have a lot of money laying around and don't mind flying to europe to pick thru parts bins...

My TL and my GTL both have a Berliner VIN plate.

Maybe even a 250 single might be were I should start.

This would be a dream come true for me. I know it is sold but something like it is what I would want. i could ride it to the Steamboat, CO. Vintage bike race.

Interesting! Then the three dealers I used at the time just never bothered with them.

Ya I will have to learn more and talk to some collectors and vintage owners. I think this would be a good investment for my tax return. I could have a lot of fun with one. Thanks for the input and let me know if you come across one for sale.
