A new Griso SE has come home with me.  I had a talk with the Ducs in the garage and made them understand that while I still love them, Daddy's bringing home a new ride and all my attention will be focused on her for a while. 

. I've loved the Griso since I first saw a picture of one. The Griso SE took that love up to another level. I love the  brown seat with the green paint.  Love the black spokes wheels. Love the way the engine pokes out from the muscular bodywork.

But I've been busy with other bikes. In 2008 I bought the Monster. I've enjoyed the Monster and have upgraded it quite a bit with lighter forged aluminum wheels and a hopped up engine. I have no plans to part with the Monster and didn't want to get a Griso since there already was a nice sporty naked Italian bike in the garage. 

During this winter the urge for the Griso became even stronger. I even drove two hours away just to look at one and learned that the price had dropped quite a bit for 2012.  Around the same time I fell for a Ducati Darmah which I bought and have been very happy with it.  So now I had two great bikes and felt the next bike should be different. You know something with saddlebags that could be used for a multiple day trip.  Something more "practical".

Well for some reason I took all the reasons why a Griso SE wasn't necessary and threw them out the window.  Walked into my local tiny Guzzi place last Thursday and asked if they could order one.  He said yes and it will be here tomorrow afternoon. I paid for it and sure enough I was riding it in time for the weekend.

Awesome! Griso SE is a super cool bike.

I used to have a Griso...drop the forks one ring past what the manual says for the "sport" setting and it'll handle much better.

It's kind of an odd machine, but I took a testride on one a few years ago and really liked it.
It's actually on my shortlist, if I ever need a new bike.

Is an aftermarket exhaust plug & play or do you need ECU/PC?

Other than that, it's hot - they have done a great styling job on it! Is it Italian maybe?

I think it was a picture of the Griso I saw back in 03 that got me interested in Italian bikes. I've always dug that bike.

I like it. If it were mine I would get rid of the mirrors and put something there that you cant see out of. Something lower. lane splitters maybe. But you can put hard luggage on it?

It does have something like a 62 inch wheelbase.

Exactly. That is what attracted me to the Griso, but also kept me from buying one. I thought it was just too similar. But the reality is they are very different which is a good thing.

A lot of people ask how it compares to the Monster. Well I'll have to answer this when I have a chance to ride them back to back. I haven't ridden the Monster much in the past few months because I ride the Darmah everywhere especially if I'm on the country roads near my house or riding with my brother who rides a 1977 Yamaha XS650. My Monster is too fast to enjoy riding on smaller roads or with my brother. My Monster is hopped up quite a bit.  The Griso probably weighs something like 550 lbs with probably 95 hp at the rear wheel. So the Monster should be faster, but it is not the all around bike that the Griso is. I enjoy the Monster the way it is currently setup when the riding is very spirited. ThOe Griso I can enjoy at almost any pace. The Monster feels like I should be going faster if I'm at cruising rpm's.  It is always telling me to give it more. The Griso is happy everywhere. The Monster feels more like a racebike on the street. The Griso feels like a great roadbike.

yeah,love it except for the exhaust canister.  
Also needs a fender eliminator and hugger.
