"Anyone want to do a test run on the putty - old rd on sat 12th july. The Mrs is throwing a baby shower at my house that day so I gotta get outta here. I thought it would be an opportunity to do some riding" ???

That's spooky, isn't Tricolour also avoiding a Baby Shower?

I'm definitely in. I've done the Putty Loop a few times in the last couple of months and I'm pretty certain I've covered enough gas stops for Testrastrettas.

Map Clickety!

Note that there is about 500m of dirt, just before the stop at Wollombi in this run, but it's all cool as it's just roadbase with potholes  (not superX stuff  [laugh]).

Tricolour mentioned meeting at Rouse Hill Maccas which is a relatively easy too find starting location, it's about 15 minutes down the road Windsor Road to Wilberforce Caltex.  The map I've linked above shows the following waypoints:

A) Gas at Wilberforce Caltex

Ride 98.5 km â€" about 1 hour 16 mins
B) Halfway (Gas for testas)

Ride 42.4 km â€" about 34 mins
C) Begin Halfway end Milbrodale Rd Turn off

Ride 12.8 km â€" about 22 mins
D) Begin Milbrodale Rd end Broke

Ride 29.5 km â€" about 22 mins
E) Begin Broke end Wollombi (coffee/food)

Ride 42.5 km â€" about 32 mins
F) Begin Wollombi end Kulurna (gas for Testas)

Ride 25.4 km â€" about 20 mins
G) Begin Kulurna end Pacific Highway

Ignore G to H, Google maps wont let you turn right from peats ridge road onto Pacific Hwy without doing some loopy thing. Unless of course you want a quick run down the closed section of the old hwy :)

Ride 6.3 km â€" about 4 mins
I) Begin Pacific Highway end Roadwarriors (coffee)

Ride 24.0 km â€" about 25 mins
J) Begin Pacific Highway end Berowra turn off.

It's a relatively big day, about 300kms from Wilberforce to the end of the Old Pac Hwy, but there is some *primo* tarmac to be had.

In a freaky twist of fate our friends had their bub 7 weeks early. But as far as I am aware the baby shower is still going ahead so I think its all good  ???. I was thinking meet at about 10.00am at Caltex Rouse Hill so the guys from south have a reasonable chance of getting there and leaving home at a reasonable time.
Its O.K Doc I actually read the whole thing instead of jumping to conclusions.

+1, I reckon the potholed-and-patched road from the pub to the beginning of the dirt is worse to ride on than the dirt section :-)

It is pretty much a series of right hand turns or slight veers offs. When you get the the end of any given road, chances are if you turn right you'll be good :)

For the directional challenged or paranoid (like me):

10:00am Meeting point: Rouse Hill Caltex     <---- Pretty sure this is the one you mean Tricolour. Let me know if it isn't.

It's about 15-20 minutes from there to the Wilberforce Caltex (last gas before halfway).

Putty Loop
START (Gas stop)
1.   Wilberforce Caltex

(Travel 98km) PUTTY ROAD -> HALFWAY (Gas Stop)
2.   Head northwest on Singleton/Putty Rd

(Travel 85km) HALFWAY -> BROKE (Gas Stop)
3.   Continue along Putty Road
4.   Right at Milbrodale Rd
5.   Turn right at Mt Thorley Rd (Broke). Pull over for fuel in gas station on the left.

(Travel 43km) BROKE -> WOLLOMBI (Lunch Stop)
6.    Continue along Mt Thorley Rd  (Becomes Paynes Crossing Road)

Warning: This road eventually becomes dirt for around 600m. Don't Panic. After this stretch of dirt you come across Wollombi.

(Travel 68 km) WOLLOMBI -> KULURNU (Gas Stop)
7.   From Wollombi, head down Great North Rd
8.   Veer left to stay on Great North Rd (ie dont turn right to go to Wisemans Ferry)
9.   Stop at Kulnura for Fuel (damn testastrettas!)

(Travel 21km) KULURNU -> ROAD WARRIORS (Coffee Stop)
10.   Right at Peats Ridge Rd
11.   Right at Old Pacific Hwy (near closed section)
12.   Follow Old Pacific Hwy to Road Warriors.

(travel 24km) ROADWARRIORS -> Berowra Caltex
13.   Follow Old Pacific Hwy to Berowra.

* It might seem like too many gas stops, but those are pretty much the only fuel stops along the route.
** kms are estimated based on googmaps.

Also it is seriously worth taking note of the fact that much if not all of the Putty Road is out of mobile reception range.  There are large signs that point out where the nearest Public phone is every now and then, but they are few and far between. If you run out of fuel or something goes wrong, it can take up to a good 30 minutes of riding before you can even get to a phone to contact someone, let alone get out of there. So be careful [roll].

See you folks at the Rouse Hill Caltex at ~9:45. Looking forward to it!
