Need info on swapping instrument cluster

I have an old instrument cluster on my 96 m900. It has (i think) the Ducati performance tach on it with the carbon fiber cover for the whole unit. Well, as is known with these old units the damn tach doesn't work worth a damn. Not only that, the carbon fiber looks like hell after being on the bike probably since new. I tried taking off the carbon fiber cover to wet sand and clear, and once I had the whole unit apart I couldn't get the damn odometer knob off. As much as I wanted to swear and curse and be pissed off, I held it together.

So now, I'm looking into a new instrument cluster altogether. I've seen older bikes with the analog tach and speedo's on them but how is this done. Is there a certain year that will work plug and play with my connectors? The ones I've seen so for on the 'bay are 2006 or newer and the connector is square, not round like mine. What do people do about what the mileage shows also?

TIA

Pretty sure any cluster 2001 and prior, from a carbie Monster, will plug right in.

Record what the mileage was on both odometers when you switch 'em.
That way you can state the true mileage when you sell it.

I have been thinking of doing this exact thing. My gauge cluster looks like hell and the tach is super glitchy. Let me know if you find any other info on this swap!

Found this one on the 'bay.

The connectors look to be exactly as mine are. Prior info looks to be true. If I had the money right now I would jump on it.

Many options out there to choose from...few questions for you to consider:

1) how much mod do you want and willing to perform vs. plug and play? skilled?
2) how much you want/willing to spend?
3) Digital or analog?

There you can narrow your search...and people can help you do whatever you need.

For me, it goes like this.
1) Plug and Play
2) Least amount for quality part (not dinged and scratched up)
3) I'm okay with analog.

I'm always looking for the deal. If I can get a good item for a fair price (when I have the money) I'll buy. I usually always will not buy the item that is busted or dinged up to get it cheaper. The one I posted above looks good and price is fair. Like I said, wish I had the money.
