"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I think that's apples and oranges.

Well...it's more like apples and pineapples. Regardless, I still think it's BS that custom built bikes can get away with sheet like that.

Anyhow, I don't live in Japan and certainly can't afford a Pani so ;D

It's not on the website

http://www.ducati.co.jp/bikes/superbike/1199_panigale_s_tricolore/index.do

The right-most tab under the bike that says "日本仕様" (i.e. Japanese Specification) has a few words, but not pics yet.

Otherwise, you can find a lot more on the official Ducati Japan blog site:

http://sbk.startducati.jp/?p=94

And here is that blog entry translated by Google.  Might not make much sense here and there, but it'll give you the gist.

Good thing they changed the name of the low power version to the "Panigare" so i wont be tricked into buying one.

"Panigare"
Is this Ducatis way of making fun of the Japs for how they can't pronounce the "L" in Panigale?

Aren't you the Panigale hater?

all New bikes in japan have a max speed limiter fitted too 112mph , many locals disconnect them

I am not surprised.  After riding with a 1199 in person, I was shocked it passed the US dB requirements.

The typical track day noise check isn't very similar to a road db test (AFAIK)

All the Panigales at our DOC track days fail the 102max stationary test, but can just about sneak through by holding the clutch and lowering the kick stand. I suspect that the low exhaust outlet doesn't exactly help. My impression is that they don't stick out as particularly noisy when you hear them go.

Poor Jap customers getting a 135hp bike. That can't be good for sales :-\

There was one at the track a week or two back. It really wasn't loud at all.. or if it was it's not such an obnoxious loud. There was a gixer that made me grit my teeth.. that rheeeeeeee noise.

Apparently it's worse:

"Featuring a single right-hand-side-mounted exhaust that taps into the under-slung units we are more familiar with, the Japanese-spec Ducati 1199 Panigale also features an enlarged plastic clutch cover, and a re-worked engine map (the S model also features the base model’s wheels). "
