No mention of battery durability on 4g is unacceptable to me.  Give me a battery that lasts!

they've given all the pertinent information.

last i checked, at&t doesn't use lte for voice, only data. voice is still over 3g.

i believe the same is true for verizon.

Frankly, switching the connector is by far the most douchebag move they have contemplated since the suing of Samsumg. This time they make the beast with two backsed their own customers. Everyone that I know that owns any iPhone also has some device that docks it. All these people will need to shell out the $30 for the connector. Why not just include it in the box? Charging additional for it is BS and it really does show what Apple thinks of their customers.

so are they douches for changing the connector or for not including the adapter?

i'll agree that it sucks, but they have kept the same connector for ~10 years and, in the same amount of time, other devices have used the following usb connectors:

i personally have a decent "collection" of 30-pin connector cables, but i only have two "dock" accessories; an actual dock (that came with my first or second ipod nearly a decade ago that i haven't used since getting an ipad), and a nike+ dongle (that i don't use at all).

all but one of my cables is a factory apple cable, the other one interfaces with my pioneer car stereo. i'll likely not change/adapt the latter one since it pretty much always has my 160gb ipod classic attached to it.

For not including the adapter. I'm all for innovations, but why in the name of everything that is holy would you not include a $30 adapter? It costs Apple probably less than $5 and it's obvious going to make a huge profit for them, which just makes consumer wonder if making profits over something as small as an adapter is so important for Apple.

looks like they may be including one:

They might actually be paying attention to what the consumers are complaining about... what a concept!!

usb is 4 pins.

the outgoing dock connector is 30 pins and the new one is 8.

they're doing more than just charging and data transfer via the dock connector.

http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/ipod_pinout.shtml

Absolutely, but they could have kept the old connector or developed one that was compatible.

The only purpose in changing it was to sell more accessories.

No need for the reduced pin connector they should have done USB and expandable memory.

Wasn't it also a space issue that it needed to be smaller to get the phone smaller as well?  That's what I picked up on during the presentation.  Also I honestly hated the 30 pin connectors, they were big and intrusive and I've even broken a few. Lightning won't have moving parts in it, goes in both ways (that's what she said) and I'll happily use an adapter until devices get updated. I ordered an additional cable with mine, and it's already compatible with my car charger which is a dual USB port.

New connector is stupid.  There are so many connectors out there already, I can't believe they had to design a new one.

And really, no analog out on it for adapter to work with?  There goes $80 alarm clock and a $200 portable stereo...

i linked to a pinout for the 30-pin above. it's using more than usb's 4 pins. i assume the lightning connector is using all 8 pins.

also, which usb? see my previous link to all the usb versions over the last 10 years apple has used a single 30-pin connector.
