I use these...

They are not the best headphones or earplugs, but they work decently as both.

Had a pair of these with the yellow foam ear plugs:

Never tried to fit a helmet over them but they sounded good.

There are replacement tips.  The base is good enough for me.  If you like huge sub woofers probably not good enough for you.  They are very comfortable.

the lee parks look identical to  these. ECS's openhouse is having an audiologist come in to make impressions. I might check them out before pulling the trigger on one.

the plugup blue ones have replaceable tips for $8.99 a pair. recommended once a year to swap them out.

Bought a pair of these.  Pretty comfortable and block a lot of noise (maybe a little to much)

If you are half deaf already it might block out a lot of noise. but to the people who regularly wear earplugs on bikes those things are absolute garbage for blocking noise outl

Yes they do, including the S molded into the plastic.  Lee parks are a more tasteful beige though.

Any Etymotic in the range is a great choice.  They block a lot of noise (as much as a good quality earplug) and sound great.

Just bought etymotic M5s via Amazon for $60, partly because of this thread.  Had to pick them up at UPS facility and decided to try them out on the way home.  Unbelievably bad!  Sound range was awful and they didn't block an ounce of noise.  Worse than the $12 CVS/RiteAid earphones I was using.  Very unhappy.  But then...

When I got home I went through the packaging and found that they come with 3 alternative 'tip styles' to put on the end of each bud.   I took off the accordion style that was on and replaced with foam ones that are a lot like the $0.05 foam buds you stuff in your ears for construction or yard work.  Sound improved significant;y and they blocked out a ton of noise.  Completely changed my mind on these.  Still not the best earbud phones out there, but I look forward to trying them on my next ride to see how well they block wind noise.

Anyway, if there is any point to my attempt at contributing here it is that the tips of the earbuds make a huge difference.  Anyone with so-so buds might want to try spending $2 on different tips before dropping $150+ on fancy phones.

It's illegal here and I know people who've been cited for it when taking off their helmets after getting popped for something else.  i'm curious what other states etc say about running two earbuds?

If you choose to experiment, try this:  Put the triple flange tips back on, but before inserting them moisten the tips (spit works wonders).  They are intended to go deeper than a lot of people realize.  Properly inserted and with a good seal, the triple flanges should be extremely quiet.  Without a good seal they also sound like crap.

Not to say that the alternate tips don't work better for you!  As you said, every ear is different!  But, your experience with the triple flange tips makes me think you weren't getting the most out of them.

I know it's illegal in MD, VA and DC. Really the motor code extends to say you can't even have earplugs in both ears. Though if you get busted for earplugs (just noise dampers) in MD, Statler has vowed to represent in court pro bono for you

these guys do a pretty okay job of keeping outside noise out - i can run the iphone at ~65% volume and still hear the music while riding.  they're similar to the foam plugs i've used at the range...plus they're cheap as hell.
