another wheel compatibility question

anyone have any idea what the difference is between oem1996 ss wheels and oem 2001 900 monster wheels?
01 monster 900ie cromo, 01 ST4

Pretty sure that '96 front wheel is a small axle, and the '01 a 25mm axle.
