Out of curiosity, where do you live now?  I currently live in Hawaii, but for only the past year.  Before that I lived in Germany, and then the UK before that.

Are you dead set on getting a brand new one?  I wanted to get an '06 Sport 1000 (sold my S2R800 for it) simply for the dry clutch.  I also liked the monopisto design better than the bipisto.

I'm from New Zealand. I'm not dead set on a new one at all, I'm always after a good deal. I think I'd go red if given the option.   8)

Quoting that bike is always a good choice!   8)

Pondering the dumb steering damper placement is also good.

That's what the crash knob is for...

...I would change the wheels first thing as the spokers are tubed [bang] Tubes do not belong on modern bikes...

Really?! This is disappointing. It's the spokers that I love! I thought I saw somebody selling aftermarket spokers that were tubeless. Link was on TOB. I presumed these guys would be tubeless too.

The wheels on the black bike look like alpinas, which are designed for tubeless tires.  That will be one of the first things I do with the S1000 that I bought, slapping a set of alpina wheels on that is...  Plus, alpina wheels will clear SBK brakes and the stock ones will not.

To clarify.
I am not crazy about spokes but in certain situations they do look good.
My complaint is that in this day we should not have a $10,000 bike that has tubes in the tires. every other company out there has decided to move away from tubes in their bikes (non-dirt bikes) that have any performance pretensions . Ducati just cheapened out on the spec of the wheels.  Oh and they weigh a ton compared to the cast wheels, this does not need to be the case but as delivered they are boat anchors.
I guess as Ducati emulates Harley more and more they are expecting that no one cares about performance.

Not my bike--just a picture I found on the web.  I like this one a lot.

there was going to be something humorous here, but, unfortunately, i was in charge of the typing, and this is all i could come up with.

It is also funny that these bikes have probably the best oem mirrors ducati has ever fit to one of their bikes.
Napolean bar ends.

maybe in another 20 years ducati will fit "retro" CRG's

The Don

I initally loved the Sport 1000 untill I saw one at a bike show, if some one could lower the bike by 3inch it would make the bike much better. The original 750 sport was long and low and had beutiful flowing lines, the new 1000 sport looks short and top heavy. My 2cents
