HANS device for motorcyclists?

I ran across this "new" piece of protective gear that looks intriguing especially at a track day (where it would be used in conjunction with a back protector).  Has anyone ever used one of these or, would you consider using one on an everyday basis, like commuting?  Is it possible to have too much protective gear?

Great idea. I'd wear one every day if I could afford it. Maybe watch for close out pricing, as I don't think it is going to be a hot seller in the sport riding category.

Yeah, I don't see much use for it outside of racing.  Do you remember when the FIA mandated HANS for F1?  Drivers hated it; too bulky, hard to use, etc., etc.  But I think even NASCAR uses HANS now.

Maybe if this technology is proven to reduce neck injuries by the few racers how do chose to use it, something like it gets mandated for MotoGP and WSBK?  I'm pretty sure it's been used in motocross for quite some time now.

Optimally, the collar would be integrated into jackets and suits as part of a neck/back protection. That could make it affordable for street wear, although you'd look like Judge Dredd with it on, which probably wouldn't sell to average riders.

As is often pointed out on Top Speed, the opinions of racers are essentially worthless when it comes to the real world of the street. [evil]

pretty soon there will be no more moto's.  It's a nice device but it's taking away the freedom IMO.  As has been said before, you take risks and at some point the joy of riding is no more.

Good point Dax, the "joy" of suiting up lasts only so long as the desire to ride has a stronger pull. Looks great for track though.

The Leatt brace has been out for a while. I know a lot of the MX/ SX factory riders ues it. I think it is an awsome idea for MX.

At the track yesterday I saw a guy with one of these.  Didn't look that weird.  On the street though... that'd be a different story I think.
