So I had a little highside the other week... but thats another story!  got some rizoma bars from Metro Ducati for a steal, but on fitment I notice the curve doesn't start until further away from the centrepoint of the bars. thus when they pass over my fork tops, they're at a lower point than stock bars. I now have clearance of maybe 1mm from bar to the fork adjuster, and i dont think i can drop the forks through the triples any further as its already at the top!

do you think this will pose an issue?? They are M900 adjustable forks, fitted to my M750. maybe M900's had slightly larger bar risers? wil post a pic once i sync my phone.

Also, the throttle decided to come apart well and truly during the swap. now it wont quiet fit back together. I can't get my head around it! anyone got experience with throttle assembly and want a cold beer?

thirdly, I forgot I'd need a drill for the mounting holes for the new bars  means riding to work Monday could be very interesting haha. hopefully be able to borrow a drill from a mate soon though.


any help would be great, I love getting my hands dirty on the bike, but I seem pretty good at getting in slightly too deep or buggering things up a lil more than they were before I started haha

Being close to the adjusters is not really much of an issue when set up, unless you are taking the bike on track you don't need to touch
them again.
As far as the throttle tube goes just be patient and methodical and it will go back together .

You can grind off the nub's instead of drilling the bars but then you will need some tape around the bars to stop the controls from shifting.
Silicone plumbers tape or even better double sided tape.

Getting the hole position correct first time for drilling is a pain in the butt .

Older Monsters with adjustable forks had higher risers, eg M900S. That explains the small gap. You could get some from a wreckers, or leave it. Damping adjustment being the only hassle.

I should really get my suspension set up properly one day. haven't bothered playing with the front, just left it how the shop set up. the rear I've had a bit of a play, but i need to understand more about it. could have it set poorly now i've fiddled, who knows.

this is the clearance, not the best pic. you can see enough of the right fork, but the left top is behind the  clutch line. i wanted to have the bars rotated back a bit to bring them lower and further towards the rear, but I lose clearance with the tank when turning then, even with my tank "mod" haha.

My old girl has low risers with its flat topped non-adjustable suspension. It would have the same issue if I fitted fancier forks. I reckon the "S" model Monsters would have risers and longer bolts to suit at about 10-15mm, maybe 20mm higher at a guess.

The Boss' Monsters have the adjusters almost touching the underside of the bar as both have been lowered. To adjust, we take the bar off.

still , might need to order some larger risers from IMA. but if i get them, i'll need the triple set to go with it...

They are beautiful I ordered a set from Patrick for a custom project. Ordered a ealry model top and later model bottom with a custom stem. So much so it seems almost a shame to put them on the bike.

Pat's a great bloke to deal with and I will definitely be getting another set for my M900.

IIRC the early triples (2001 and earlier, non-2001 S4) have a different bolt spacing from the 2002 and later.

So be careful what you buy...

Spot on, it went from 32mm-38mm I think. Might get a mate to machine up some small spacers, I don't want too much rise on it!
