Is the lt/rt turn signal switch on the SF a self-centering momentary contact switch (in other words, essentially the same as two push buttons that can only be operated one at a time)?

Yes it is.

^^ thanks ^^

Do you know if the "m-Button" was used for your installation (converting all handlebar switch data to a single-wire back to the m-Unit)?

"m-Button" being Motogadget's name for a bus logic device that can be used between handlebar controls and the m- Unit, not the name for a switch or literal button.

They have no product called M-Button as far as I know. (?)

They do have 'push buttons', but I didn't use one. If I did you'd see it in the pics.

So, fair to assume your setup doesn't use this device  ;)

I should have also asked .... Is the headlight Hi/Lo selector also a momentary contact switch?

My Hi-lo is wired to the flash to pass trigger. My Hi-lo button scrolls through the gauge settings, but yes in it's stock configuration it's momentary.

I'd envied suzyj’s ‘no fuses/no relays’ control box since she posted on that device of her own making but figured lacking her EE background that's out of my reach.  Then kopfjäger starts this thread and mentions the m-Unit and I start digging.

After downloading the SF wiring diagram (in the Owners Manual available on Ducati's website) I spent some time today examining the SF switchgear at Ducati Austin then to Revival Cycles, a local Motogadget dealer that has installed the m-Unit on a number of custom builds including vintage Guzzis and Ducs.  One of Revival’s owner/engineers gave me a grand tour of several m-Unit installations. No question, the SF switches and the m-Unit are a match made in heaven and the m-Unit is a very slick device.

Sure, a slight cost increase (but really not too much) compared to the total rewire I was looking at with traditional fuse/relay circuitry but the harness simplification and extra features offered with the m-Unit (self-cancel turns, alarm, delayed load until start, one-wire running/pattern flash brake/tail light, programmable so turns act as partial-lit running lights, etc) and super-compact packaging make it too attractive to pass up for my ongoing once-in-a-lifetime custom Monster project.

All this to say “Thanks, kopfjäger” for your post and inspiration.   [beer]

Kopfjäger -- how were you able to make your signal indicators cancel? i just put on the Panigale switches -- actually, Gary did it for me at Rockwell's. But he said he couldn't have the button on the switch cancel the signals, because of some momentary-ground-thingie (i can change my clutch, but don't know nothing about electronics). i have to tap my signal switch a second time to kill the indicator.

but hitting the signal switch again is a pain, i wish i could use the kill button on the switch instead.
Give me a shout if you know any good motorcycle detailers in the Westchester area.

oh, and i got an m-unit too...

...i thought that would make it all possible. [bang]

Kopf did not do the work himself so he may not know, but I wired up the SF switch to my Bandit.

Your problem is that your OEM signals are not the momentary type (neither are the Bandit's), but the SF are.

To overcome this, I used the Signal Dynamics auto-canceling module for the signals, and a custom headlight relay (SPDT+built-in diode) for the high beam and a regular automotive relay for the pass switch.

Edit: I just saw you have the m-Unit.  Does that allow programming of the turn signals?  I did everything (Motoscope + m-Switch + SF switch) without an m-Unit.

Not sure what you mean? I click my turn signal to turn it on, then click it again to turn it off.

What I mean is, there is a kill switch, a button, on the turn signal controller -- a SF or Panigale rider will click the turn signal in the direction he is turning, and then hit the kill switch to turn it off (push the button on the signal switch). But I have to push the signal switch again, in the same direction as I am turning. Annoying.

I need to find someone who is an m-unit pro in the new York area to fix this sht. I may need to call spiegler...
