I could believe it when they said that it was the aerodynamic edge  that as giving him the advantage in long straights... but yeah... that engine of his cant be legit after seeing that.

the other thing that was discussed at one point were some of his maps which were not illegal, but not of the type of tuning that most would have the opportunity to experiment with and/or have due to $$$ which his team seemed to have in abundance in comparo...so while his motor was never found to be of a different spec...the aero advantages + his tinyness + software + his testicular fortitude = examples like this...not that I am making excuses for him...just makes it a bit more plausible/easy to swallow.

I don't know that any excuses need to be made: 1) As has been noted, he gets an awesome drive off the line - I suck badly enough at drag racing to know that reaction time & drive you lose at launch = momentum you never get back, and he got a better launch than anyone around him. 2)The backmarkers he passes en masse coming into turn one weren't back there due to excessive aggression like Marquez was - going into T1, they're all slowing down & getting in line, while he's on the throttle and looking for gaps - watch the rider in red lined up one row ahead of Marquez & on the outside - until he runs wide & gets blocked by a knot of slow riders, he's matching MM's run through the field. 2) From there on, he's passing riders in ones & twos, pretty much like you'd expect him to - as a viewer (unlike a lot of you, I've never raced motorcycles, so may be missing things you're seeing), those look like clean passes to me, not even exceptionally aggressive.

I'm not discounting the possibility that he's got some special sauce in the bike's mapping & aerodynamics, or that he can takes some excessive chances with other folks' lives when he wants to get past, but I didn't see anything in that bit of video that couldn't be attributed to a talented rider, and it's pretty clear he's that.

I still don't like him one bit.

That is about all I have to say about that.

I know this is resurrecting a long dormant thread, but this seems to be a new(ly-posted) video both of the incident that got Marquez lined up at the back of the grid at Valencia, and a breathtaking aerial view of his charge through the field.  :o
