The DMF server runs Cent OS...which is Linux.

It ran for 5 years with no rebooting.

We just upgraded hardware so it has a fresh start.

So are you running your own server then? If so is it cost effective?

Not our own...

it is hosted on a dedicated virtual server at a hosting company that darylbowden has used for his real job and has a good relationship with.

We had several other companies/configurations before this company, but most of them limited connections.

Usage by the members consists of clicking around like crack monkeys so we need unlimited simultaneous connections.

It isn't cheap, but it is cheaper than trying to operate our own.

I had this idea. Well you know the light bulb over the head idea? Mine was more like a match striking but not lighting. Any I was considering the idea of running by company website off of a spare machine i have and just increasing my upload speed if I could get a static IP.

I don't get much traffic. Its sort of an online business card that you can order from. The site accounts for about 2% of our sales which is fine by me for now.

It might work for you. The requirements are much lower for a site like that.

Our bandwidth and storage requirements aren't that high...it's the simultaneous connection thing.
