Maybe I should not have laughed at her. I was there back in the TOB days, well, not a full ban, just NMC. I just saw her reaction and so many others came to mind. She truly has no idea why she was banned, rubbed the admin the wrong way or broke some obscure rule. Granted, she didn't get any warning, but I still found it funny.

Why do we get so damn attached to places like this?

Though it's at a detached level - it is a social interaction. Wouldn't you be pissed if some stranger told you you couldn't hang out with that buddy you grab beers with every 6 months, just 'because'?

Kind like that I figure

You didn't lie. ;D

I can be an asshole without much provocation. I know that.

I can't, and am not willing, to change who or what I am.

I participate on a performance and nutrition forum.

It's run by one individual and populated by a great many very intelligent folks.

He has a policy not to ban anyone, with exception of continuous harrasment type behaviour. You can say whatever you want and as rudely as you wish. However, you cannot edit anything you type after a 10 minute period and you cannot delete posts. If you say something really stupid, it stays up forever. It works far better at encouraging good behaviour than any policed forum I've ever seen.

The result has been a forum where people really think through what they say and how they say it, when it comes to forum debates.  Members on that forum become very good at sticking to facts, supporting their arguements logically and with research when neccessary and stearing clear of logical fallacies.

I like the permanent post paradigm.  It works.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I rarely modify a post, unless asked to do so or because I find a spelling mistake.

I generally don't regret anything I post.

I only fix spelling mistakes I catch but not content. As for content, there are just an awful lot of posts I just never hit the post button on after reading through a few times.

I erased a four paragraph reply to the Boston marathon thread. Bashing a few idiots who posted. I then reread it and realized its not their fault they are idiots and deleted my reply.

Knowing all to well I would probably get banned cause some of the posters are in the " in " crowd.

You honestly believe that?

Is there a listing of the "in" crowd? I wish to know if I'm on it and my ranking to see if I have power over others and can force them to bend to my whims.
