Yeah but where's the fun in that?

Oh, for the one situation I can think of that I would need to be breaching a locked door, there is plenty of fun factor. [evil]
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

I bought a new cz pistol.

Waited 10 minutes so the guy could finish his Saratoga

Maryland sucks
No more true statement has ever been spoken in the history of mankind. They tax the rain here (not a joke), so why not have a 60+ day wait for a gun? [roll] :'(

.410 shotguns won't cut rebar, but they're good for removing mistletoe from trees.

Maybe load some shells really hot and use a tungsten core slug?

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Point well taken. I will not talk political type things here.

For you rain is this mythical chemical compound (dihydrogen monoxide) that falls from the sky. I hear it only happen when you upset the gods or if you make great sacrifices to them. I’m not sure which it is in your neck of the woods. Either way in my neck of the woods we are charged for the privilege of knowing this great chemical compound that falls freely from the space above our heads.

Now go and bring religion into this!  ;D

I've recently been bitten by a bug for old military rifles.

I already have a Mosin and an Enfield.

I think my next purchase is going to be a 1903.

I'd love some suggestions of other old military guns that're going for 600 bucks or less though.

Are there any out there?

Maybe that's why they're taxing it.

If it were dihydrogen monoxide, like the rest of us get, maybe it'd be free.   ;D

WarrenJ

03'S and 03-A3's are great.  Mausers are fun, the Swiss Schmitt Rubins are fun (the K31's are phenomenal shooters)  I am just going through a Carcano phase (just picked up a Beretta made Carcano Carbine)  British Enfields, P14 and P17 Enfields, Arisaka's.......Its a mighty slippery slope you are standing on.

I think the K31 Schmitt Rubins are very interesting and a great value.  Many of them, if you take off the buttplate, have a small tag engraved with the person's information the rifle was issued to by the Swiss military.  They are finely made weapons with all sorts of subtle Swiss details.  Every one I have had experience with has been ridiculously accurate.  Accurate, fun , interesting rifles.

A good '03 or 03-A3 are excellent guns also.  Typically very accurate, ammunition is common.  There are getting to be more Springfield and Garand matches where you can compete with these
rifles without getting into too much of an equipment race.

I am an inveterate reloader and love finding old, obscure rifles and getting them to shoot.  Forming brass from other calibers, figuring out how to make, adapt or acquire odd diameter bullets and
getting these old rifles to shoot is no end of fun for me.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

Assuming that you are in the US,I would recommend a Curio's & Relic's FFL. It is only $35 and the cost of the fingerprints. This would allow you to buy direct and get Wholesale pricing on anything that is 50+ years old. This also includes handguns and some SBRs (if they are on the list). On NFA weapons you still get the "dealer price", but would have to still get a tax stamp. It allows you to import weapons as well. It will save you lots of cash on the older items that you are seeking.

(dihydrogen monoxide) Opps! good catch, Ill fix that.

I am very partial to old military guns.  Check out http://www.surplusrifle.com/ for some fun and useful info.

I am very partial to Spanish mausers.  I have a few, and you can get the later models (FR7, FR8) in 7.62nato caliber.

Like WarrenJ I have a Swiss rifle bug too, I have the Schmidt Ruben K31, but I warn you the ammo is not cheap -- it uses the proprietary 7.5 Swiss, and it's not cheap anymore.  I bought a bunch of the Swiss ammo packs when it was cheap years ago, but it's all gone now and you're stuck with resellers and commercial ammo.  The good news is that you can get brass for 7.5 Swiss and it uses the same projectiles as 7.62nato (308).

There are multiple versions of the Mosins around.  The most common are the M44 which was the last version made.  The ComBloc made a huge batch of them postwar and put them in storage.  The Finn Mosins are the best quality, most of them are based off a 91/30 receiver but a Finn barrel, and they are worlds apart in accuracy.  Plus, Mosin ammo is still cheap.

Also, the Yugo mausers (M48, M48A) are great shooters -- all 8mm.  8mm is still available in milsurp and cheapish, though not as cheap as 7.62x54 mosin.  8mm is damn hot though and will kiss your shoulder well if you're not careful.

If you aren't afraid of oddball ammo, check out the Swedish mausers (Karl Gustav) and the Swiss rifles.  They are beautifully made and very accurate.  If you want rifles with easier to obtain ammo, check into the 7.62 nato Spanish mausers and the Mosins.

There are a shitload of other countries in the mix too.  I am very partial to almost anything from the Loewe factory -- Loewe mausers were exported from Germany to all over and you can get Argentina, Chile, etc and they are in good shape.  Czech mausers were boxed up and sent to Israel in the 50s and rebarreled in 7.62nato, and those are good quality but beat up.

If you want semiautos, I like the FN49 a lot.  Those came in 8mm, 7mm and 30-06 (rare).  Also, the Ljungman or Hakim. I have both in 8mm and love them.

For the Glock shooters out there; have you altered any part of the trigger mechanism?  If so, what did you do, and what are your thoughts?  I'm thinking about experimenting around with one of my 17s, am am curious what mods you've tried.
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

I was looking at that one.  Not sure if I'm looking to lighten the pull so much.  More interested in a crisper break, and possibly shorter reset.
