Passenger Weight Issues

I have a female friend that recently asked me if I would give her a ride on my motorcycle some time. I told her it could happen and just left it at that. Well she keeps reminding me but I'm not exactly comfortable because I'm concerned about her weight.

I've only had light passengers so far so it's been no problem. I've heard you shouldn't have a passenger that weights more than you? Is that because it's terribly hard to feel the proper balance heading into turns with a heavier passenger? I imagine it would be.

Here's the deal. I don't feel comfortable about giving her a ride. So the responsible thing then is to not give her one. But if she wants an explanation there's no way I could tell her without her being offended that I think she's fat. I know she's a woman that has self-esteem issues with her appearance.

Recommendations? Have any of you riden with a passenger heavier or your same weight approx.? What's it like?
Don't look at this.

Never heard the advice to not give rides to people who weigh more than you. I don't think it should matter much, but your margin for error is just less (stopping is harder, accelerating is harder, can't lean the bike and catch it.)

That being said, you can't do something that you're not comfortable with. I think you should take off your passenger pegs and say they're broken....

For God's sake, don't tell her what you really are thinking.

Remove the passenger pegs!  or ......tell her that you just had a bad experience with a pillion "a few days ago" and are not sure about riding with a passenger on the monster at all.

I know that I had to crank on the pre-load to add my wife as a passenger for a 2 day trip....she's about 150lbs  (I'm 175lbs) .

Teh Monster suspension was not designed for 275lbs let alone another 50!

Don't have fat girl friends.  [thumbsup]

Tell it to her straight.  You're not comfortable with your abilities and don't want to go down.

Tell her your bike would need to be professionally adjusted to accomodate more than one person.

Tell her you'd rather not abuse your bike like that... ;D

I don't know man, tell her to find a boyfriend that rides.  If you have a girlfriend you could also add that you feel it wouldn't be appropriate.

Either way, don't risk it.
Speed is always relative.

step 1 buy sticker and place on bike under the cowl

Just show her thie sticker and shrug your shoulders ;D

My biggest concern would be with the added forces placed on your arms under braking conditions.  Not a good thing.

I would tell her that you simply aren't comfortable enough with your abilities as a rider to give her a ride.  Say you don't want to place her in danger and that if you killed her you wouldn't be able to live with yourself.

That's the worst!  I've had larger woman say things like, "When am I gonna get a ride on that?"  I've pretty much been able to laugh it off.  Or say, "Did you bring your helmet?"  Luckily none of them have asked repeatedly.  I feel like if they just took a good look a the bike they'd know better.  We're not talking Gold Wing, people.  Anyway -- good luck with that.

Tell her you noticed a stress fracture in the metal of the rear shock cylinder... & you can't afford to replace it.

However, if you tell her this... you can NEVER get caught with another girl riding pillion.

Alternatively, you could take a look at the new BOMb, and cut off the back half of your frame, slide on a single seat :D

Do NOT tell her the truth.

You can tow a passenger that is bigger/heavier than you.  It's not that big a deal.  I've done it and I'm mega-shrinky-dink.

The deal is you don't WANT to give a heavy passenger a ride, so don't.
Just tell her you are not prepared/ uncomfortable with the responsibility; give the lone wolf speech and howl at the moon.  Tell her you are self conscious cuz it's been a long time since you felt a woman close to you and you are not sure you could control yourself (tear up when you say this...).  Go mono posto.  Put an arm in a fake cast.  Cast aside all dental hygine...whatever...

If she still wants to ride, suggest that she take the MSF or maybe she can find a nice fella with a Harley.

Braver man than me, getting on the back of your bike - I'd start sobbing uncontrollably once you hit the first corner, and started scraping hard bits.  :'(

I'll stay under the sofa, thanks.  [thumbsup]

I stay away from fat chicks.  In all honesty I think she is madly in love with you and riding your monster is another way of saying she wants in your pants so watch out.  Go find yourself a nice, attractive, thin girl and I think your problems will work themselves out.  There are weight limits on these bikes as opposed to Harleys.  Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

if I had a vagina...I'd never leave the house

you guys are a riot  [laugh]

Ok she's not exactly fat, more chubby, or as Cartman puts it- festively plump.

Yeah that's the other wrinkle in all this.  She wants me.  I've told her I just want to be friends and I thought she was fine with that.  But now it seems she's trying to win me over or something.  I simply don't want her that close to me.

She also knows I give rides to other women.  So I can't use any excuse that sounds like I don't allow for any passengers.  Perhaps I could attempt to give her a very short and unthrilling ride just to get it over with and get her , you know... off my back  [thumbsup]

(thanks for the welcome.  I just came from the "other" Monster forum site that seems to be getting very little activity.)

going for a ride on your motorcycle is code for...... (please pm SacDuc for the answer)

this is the most hilarious thread ever...

but damn, that monster seat is tiny, unless the person has a small a$$ its not going to happen regardless of weight.

but also remember the heavier the person the better the chance the seat bends and cracks the taillight housing as the seat isn't the most rigid thing..

funny thread.

yeap you are screwed you ahve to give her a ride since she sees you giving think chicks a ride. [popcorn]
