Hey everyone...I just looking for a little info here.  I'm wondering how many 696 owners have taken their bikes in concerning the coil issue.

Was yours already correct or did the dealer have to fix it?

Also how many of your dealers were aware of the specific issue/bulletin?

I guess I just want to know how wide spread this issue was.

When I brought my 696 in for the 600 service I mentioned the hesitation/ lurching issue and the Tech said ducati sent out a bulletin saying the coil wires were crossed. He changed them and no more lurching between 3.5 -4 rpm.

My dealership hasn't gotten back to me. I still don't even know if I'm getting this so called lurching.

The hesitation/ overheating was made worse with the install of termignoni exhaust at about 300 miles. two days later after the install, the dealer who installed the exhaust system called me and asked if I was having issues with over heating and to bring the bike back because of the service bulletin they received.

The ducati dealer who installed my exhaust was not my local dealer whom I purchased the bike from. My local dealer is a large multi-brand dealer and is horrible. I brought the bike to them because the are 15min. away. After having my bike there for 2 1/2 days they finally fixed it saying "they found an unpublished technical bulletin" after I initally had to tell them about the bulletin in the first place.

My bike is cured after the fix with no more hesitation at 4000-4500 rpm or rapid overheating.

I feel you...I'm in the same boat right now...I took the bike in yesterday because my engine light started blinking on the day before.  So I basically had to convince them to check the wires, and even then, told me they can't do it until next Monday... Oh well.  I'm glad to hear that the lurching will be gone!

my bike will make like a pop sound coming from the head i believe sometimes if i throtle it off the start it will do it or if i hit the gas suddenly in the middle of the RPM. What could that be?

Hard to say what exactly it could be, do you have termignoni exhaust? I noticed a slight poping sound now but I dont know if it is the sound from the free-er breathing air box, or exhaust leak?

no, exhaust its bone stock!

Does that Bulletin have a reference number or something?
just to check in Europe if there is a "recall" from Ducati.

I just got my 696 back from the dealer after a few hours on a thruxton 900 (not impressed), and my bike was affected by the switched coil wires...

HOLY SHIT, it made all the difference in the world.  I started complaining about the low end jerkiness when I first got it, and everyone told me, "that's a ducati for ya, they don't like to go slow"....Well that may be, but what I was feeling was the result of factory error, and it is GONE now...I'm so very happy..


So far, the recall isn't official for some reason, at least that's what my dealer said.  I wonder why not, it seems from the board here that most every 696 in the first shipment came with the wire harness wired wrong.  That's kinda a big deal.

Anyone who hasn't had theirs into the shop yet to get it checked out really should.

if you guys are having probs with the dealers not knowing or working with you get ahold of DUC NA on their website. they don't want dealers giving them a bad name i'm sure.

totally agree. I wonder if Ducati is checking further into this problem to cover their backs, (fried coils? or other wireing issues?).

Is it safe to say that the new 696s will not have the coil issue?
