(New York Daily News) A fisherman was savaged to death by a beaver after going up close to try and take its picture.

The man, visiting from the city of Brest, who has not been named, was viciously attacked during a trip with two friends at Lake Shestakov in Belarus.

Sky News reports he spotted the animal at the side of the road and decided to take its photograph

Crappy that he died, but that falls very much in the 1 in 11ty billion agaist odds of ways to die. Seeing "savaged to death by a beaver" makes me wonder if the beaver was rabid.

Given it's spring time, I wonder if it was a momma beaver protecting her young.
Momma animals get down right mean if they think you're a threat to their little ones.

There are quite a few beavers behind my property where I kayak.  I paddle a lot at night and it is always a start when a 50 lb beaver slaps its tail right next to the kayak in the dark.  You need to respect an animal that can chew down a large tree and drag its branches into the water.  They are a powerful animal and are not to be messed with.  I do see the occasional otter - they are fun to watch but I definitely do not want one of them in the kayak with me.  I have had to discourage raccoons and muskrats from climbing aboard a couple of times.  Too many people think nature is like Walt Disney - even a fluffy wild bunny will effectively defend itself if it thinks it is being threatened.  Give 'em room.
