Not a stoopid question by any means, after many conversations with him I never quite figured it out, but what Nate said is on the mark. I do know if he was brought into your company, heads were gonna roll and the trash was getting dumped.

Ha! I had it years before that!  ;D

I thought he was some kind of copy writer. Never did ask him. We discussed writing at length, since I am a (slacker) aspiring writer myself.

*stupid question...

what did he do for a living?

This is one of the PM's he sent me. Talks a bit about what he did for a living and a few other interesting topics. I'm really very interested in the part that he talks about him writing in regards to his godmother. Not only because I am interested in art history but because his writing had a way of evoking my emotions.

Hey Evan....I dabble in history and get curious about places where I wind up. Wife was an Art History major so Florence has a lot for her. Trip is a vacation.

I write for a living...business/marketing stuff....pays the bills....I also write for my own amusement, writing for me is a genetic predisposition...been in the family for a century or 3

My sense of the post-Roman Empire city-states and all the internecine warring....the Borgia's/Medici's etc is sketchy but I will no doubt have a fun time learning about them.

My father was a scholar on them. He went to the American University in Rome after he was discharged from the army post-WW2...also worked on the digs at Pompeii and Herculaneum for spending money at the time

As for art restoration my godmother's family was deeply involved since the 1920's in restoring old masterpieces in NYC....replacing the rotted canvas backings etc....after the war they made money removing camouflage paintings from the surfaces of the old masterpieces that were disguised to hide them from the invading/occupying Germans....

They were big patrons of the Jesuits and as a result got a lot of work from the Vatican or work steered to them by the Vatican. Sadly I know little about their actual business and there is little on the web that offers much.

In the end my godmother lived alone in this large old mansion that was falling down around her...school of Vandyke Oil's hanging on the walls...millions of dollars in artwork and antiques....I used to go and work on her house for her...it was like a museum....I have started and stopped a story I am writing about her and her family....she was great fun to hang out with

but the story of her family was very tragic in a Dickens way....and it is very much about a time and place in American society between the wars and after...that has long passed

Anyway...if you want me to chase anything down for you while I am there shoot me a line before Tuesday

Thanks to whoever it was that confirmed my faded memory of RAT's mime story. And I had forgotten about the chimp story. [laugh] Another RAT classic. [drink] [bow_down] Certain people are born writers and others can't even sign a check. He was definitely the former. [bacon] ;)
