Factory Status

Each Manufacturer, (including motorcycle manufacturers and chassis manufacturers), can choose to enter up to 4 riders for the season who will participate with “Factory” status.

When does development occur if the engines are locked for the entire season?

Dorna will kill it eventually.

SBK will end up being a streetbike series with the proposed rules.

Dorna will kill factory involvement in both.

Quite like the idea of a dumbed down WSB as it's getting too close to MotoGP.  That said, something does need to happen with MotoGP.  How about unlimited Street bike based engines in prototype chassis?  That way development would filter down to road bikes...

Do I smell an Audi/Kwak/Suzuki/Aprilia/BMW assist for the 'new manufacturers' going on here?

Not clear from the summary who gets to do what, such as MotoGP/own ECU software.....anybody have more details?

I read it as everyone will use the Dorna ecu, but the factory teams can use their own software.

An important bit I thought was the data logging of the spec ecu. Is the factory ecu the same as the others with regards to the internal data logger? Who has access to the data? Does the ecu remain the property of Dorna and have to be returned with all internal logs complete?

One more question...why?   [bang]

I think the more interesting part is the nine engines for "new" manufacturers. Do Kawasaki and Aprilia count as "new"? I know the Ape eats through engines, so this might be the way for them to compete with the big boys.

These rules get more confusing every minute.

Raux

I would say anyone new to the GP not CRT category would count as new.
So if Aprilia went full GP with their current bike with upgrades! AND have one year to sort out the bugs on the longevity of the motors, Aprilia could become force in GP.

duccarlos

+1 the chassis is spot on, so all they need to find are the extra horses and a way not to torpedo their engines. Easier said than done. Remember that for years in WSBK some complained that the Ape was a MotoGP bike in street clothing. It might be that they used whatever they learned (except for the engine longevity) into their MotoGP package.

Both Laverty and Guintoli have had DNF's due to engines grenading this season... failures in practice too IIRC.

Aprilia is going to have to sharpen their 'axe' if they're going to finish the season with 12 engines in GP.
