Question for iPad gurus

I have an iPad for work that is a few years old.  Maybe the iPad 2?

Anyhow, I've got an upgrade to the newest version.

The plan was to restore the new iPad from a backup to iTunes as our company doesn't want to use iCloud for some reason.

Anyhow, when our IT admin and myself tried to load that backup to my new iPad, the password wasn't accepted as I apparently changed the original Apple ID password at some point in time and I don't have a clue what it could have been two years ago.

Of course, all of the apps & purchased items through the iTunes store will transfer over no problem, but I've got a bunch of .pdf files that I would need to re-load if I can't recover this old password.

Any ideas?

Couldn't you just make a new password?

No, it requires the original password used to set up the iPad ~2 years ago.

Ipad gurus won't know the answer as gurus don't forget passwords.  :)

To clarify, you forgot your apple ID password? That can be reset without the original password. What am I missing?

You can't override the old one?

I imagine I wouldn't be asking for assistance if I could.

Call Apple care. I'm sure Toyota has a plan with them.  ;)

Call Apple care.

I did already.

No existing plan, so it's $19 for a one time help session.

Yeah I saw your original comment it just makes no sense that apple would lock you into one password. I guess if the PDFs are worth $19 you have your answer.

are you talking about the encryption password for the backup itself?

if so, that password isn't necessarily the appleid or the ipad security password, it's a password specified when backup encryption was selected.
