Those things aren't any louder than the pipes in the choppers I hear going up and down the PCH and Dana Point Harbor.

To help you fit in for the 6 months you are here IZ: we don't call it "the" PCH. Just PCH.  :)

Some places charge to sign off the tickets, this office did not. I now have to take the ticket to court and pay $25 per offence to have it dismissed.

You should be able to do that via mail.

Yeah well, gotta go and ask for traffic school for the speeding part of that ticket. 81 in a 65. Fines sure have gone up in that few years. Less than 20 over and the fine was over $700!!!! It drops it about $450 if I go to traffic school...

Have you checked to see if all of this can be handled online? My wife got a speeding ticket 6 months ago and was able to do everything online, including traffic school. Fine sounds high. Her's was $238 for 80 in a 65. $302 with traffic school. Traffic school was $15 or so.

I plan on going in and asking the judge for a reduced fine. This was in San Diego county and I was very surprised to see the cost.

Wow.  That's expensive for the amount over.  My last one was 20 over.  Attorney fee + pleading 9 over (no insurance impact) along with court costs & per mile over costs was just under $400.

Why pay for an attorney?

I sit in court and watch the same two or three attorneys handle 5-15 cases a day and all they get for the people is the same deal they would get if they showed up. They charge between $200 and $300 per citation. If the defendant makes more then the attorney cost I understand but I don't think most of them do. Even if they have to miss work it's usually done by 10AM.  In ten years I've never seen one of these attorney's go to trial on a traffic case.

I watched an attorney go to trial on a traffic case yesterday when I went to go for my day in front of the judge....that attorney did her job and exploited the facts that the cop did not present in his case at all....my case was 61 in a 30 reduced to 59 in a 30...went from $300 and 5 points to $150 and 2...no lawyer...just me pleading for some leniency by going guilty with an explanation.

Depends where you are.  When I appeared for my last speeder they would only plea to a lesser speeding ticket, in short, still points.  They did hint that it would become a parking ticket if a lawyer showed up.  My lawyer just called.  Parking ticket ;D  Previous ticket, different town, same state.  No lawyer was needed.  Parking on sidewalk, pay cashier.

Depends. I got a ticket in FL and almost immediately started getting mail advertising for traffic citation lawyers. Got the cheapest one at $35. He must probably handle all cases in that area cause I just faxed him all the info and he got all the charges dismissed.
