Just a little update for those of you who have asked -

Brian saved the day with his prompt delivery of a few parts. Now the bike is the proud owner of the stock height clip-ons and a scratch-free right mirror. Now if I could just get that damn left grip off of the old clip-on....sheesh.

With some minor "convincing" the turn signal is straight again. Still scratched, but you can't tell.

Parts arriving this week are the brake pedal, open clutch cover (It had to be replaced anyway, right?) and a couple of tank brackets that looked to have gotten a little screwy during the fall.

On order is the megaphone for the exhaust. Should be in week after next. In the meantime I might just run it open for a couple of short trips. It'll run lean, but as long as I don't let it get super hot I think it'll be fine.

Everything else is so minor I'm not bothering with it at this point. So, with a little luck. I might be back on two wheels (minus the exhaust) this weekend. Thanks for everybody's help so far!

If you have an air compressor handy you can give a blast of air just under that grip while pulling on it and it should slip right off.

It was very hard to post this without using "blow" and "tug"  :-\ .. oh wait ... I just did  [bang]

an air-cooled duc liter bike in texas in the summer with straight pipes?  nah...i'm sure it won't get hot...

if you do decide run it open, though, be ready for some really weird (and pissed off) looks from just about everyone in earshot.  and pack earplugs if you aren't already.

I didn't even think about that. That's a great idea. I'll give it a shot when I get home.  [thumbsup]

Then there is the old hairspray trick for putting it back on. Spray some good old fashioned woman's hairspray inside the grip then quickly slide it on the handlebar. The wet spray will let it slide on then will dry out and become sticky and tacky keeping the grip in place on the bar. Worked on changing out about a hundred pairs of Oury grips on my MX bikes in the... well I better not say when, there I go dating myself once again. [laugh]

Kevin, lookin' good in the avatar there bro'!! [thumbsup]

Kevin wins the prize. Either I was gonna have soap everywhere or I could just watch the air compressor shoot that grip off like a cannon. WOW. Almost too easy. I owe you a beer, Kev.  [thumbsup]

actually it was a little *too* easy, kevin.  no fun at all...it just worked like it was supposed to.  wtf?  how am i supposed to get all pissed off and cuss at a bike and feel very important when it cooperates?  i'm all about harder, not smarter...  a philosophy that at least i know works with the ladies...  :P
