I had a chance to hold a shark helmet that my friend bought while we were at Indy Motogp.  He bought it from a moto2 garage autographed.  I digress . 

Who here has a carbon fiber helmet?  Other than the awesome lightness, how are they?  Trying to find crash reports on those.

Akuma Phantom II. At 3 lbs is super light which is quite nice, much less tiring.
Very Aero as well reducing drama on head checks but that has nothing to do
with shell composition.
No crash data available I'm happy to report.

I've been lusting after the Nexx Carbon XR1R

I crashed an AGV GP-Tech pretty hard. It isn't all carbon fiber, but a carbon/kevlar/fiberglass composite.

I landed on my upper back/back of my head. By design, the shell crumpled in the back near the air vent exit as there is a hollow spot between the foam and shell in that area.

The EMT's couldn't believe I didn't ring my bell. I didn't even see stars. I went and bought another right away

I got mine at the Indy ducati dealer along with the bike. I haven't used another helmet, so cant compare. But really happy with it. Excelent side vision and pretty light at abt 1300 grams. I feel the wind noise has gone up a bit in the 3 years of use.
Happy to report that I don't have crash analysis! and hope I never will have one to report. Knock-wood!

I want this as my next helmet. I have tried several on and like the fit. Mainly I want it for the photochromic shield that is available. I hate taking two shields.

I used to work in a bike shop - one day a kid walked in with his full CF mx helmet completely split down the middle.

I say boy - the kid WALKED in!

The importer of that brand (cant remember which one) swapped the split one for a new one and used it for promotional purposes.

Another guy that used to come into the shop had a helmet that was so lose it could spin on his head. Tight ass refused to buy a new one despite me offering all sorts of sweet deals on a new one.

I found out he had an off on a dirt road and hit the deck head first so hard that the visor embedded in the dirt and couldn't be pulled out. He spent 6 months in hospital with a brain injury and still has trouble with his speech.

Moral: buy the best you can afford and make sure it fits (pref tight when new) then replace it when the time comes no matter how much it hurts,
