This guy is taking way too many chances, sooner or later he'll run out of altitude and we'll read about it on the news.

It's dangerous enough to do that in something with power, where you *might* have enough time to add power and reduce decent rate (if you are planning far enough in advance)... in an unpowered wing suit, getting that close repeatedly is asking to get killed.

One of the common ways GA pilots die is attempting to "buzz" a home, people, etc.  They misjudge their altitude and descent rate, and by the time they realise it's going pear-shaped, it's too late to do anything about it.

There is a documentary on Netflix about wingsuit flying, Birdmen i think it's called.  Pretty good.  I also read an article in some new york publication (the New Yorker? the New York Times?) about this.  From those I took away the following:

Basically, these people realize that you could very well die anytime they jump.  And in fact a handful die each year, which given the small number of people doing it, is actually a material % of the population of wingsuit-ers (wingmen? wingpeople?).  What makes it so risky is that the best of them are always trying something new, trying a new jump or an old jump in a new way.  One wrong calculation and it's over.

That said, I think those that don't push the limits are relatively safe, at least in the way that we bikers who don't ride like a squid, wear full gear, etc. are relatively safe.

Anyway, I enjoy the videos and secretly really want to try it.  But alas, time and money...

Jeb Corliss' jump last week between the mountains in China. Crazy, but really cool.

...and yeah, these guys most likely won't live long enough to collect social security...all part of being a dare devil though.

Have you seen the Jeb Corliss video where he rakes the top of a mountain with his shin? He misjudged his height and whacked his leg. It happened in South Africa. It put him out of jumping for over a year. He just started back up not too long ago.
