Loose Chain Highside Crash

I hate when that happens!

Looks to me like the rear sprocket was pretty far gone, too.

Thought it was the sudden braking that caused the accident in the video.


When I was new rider, I had no idea about chain maintenance at all.  As I was exiting a highway and while on ramp, I feel no power and luckily  was able to pull over.   Found my chain had come off n was hanging on the swing arm.  Had to tow her and that's when I learned about lubing chain.

It was. He locked up the rear and when he let off the rear brake it threw his ass to the ground.

The chain clearly came off. You can notice it hanging down the swing arm.

Watch the slo mo... the chain came off before the highside, and could have caused it if the links were grabbing at the swingarm and the sprocket/carrier assembly.

I'm not sure how.  It was completely off the rear sprocket before the lockup and didn't appear to be moving at all and you can see the brake light come on way before the lock and slide.

I should have said "in conjunction with rear brake"

IMO, for what I see:

• Chain came off
• Dude tried to glide his bike out of the way
• Chain got stuck in rear axle or sprocket
• Dude flew over the bike

Something happens around the 21 sec. mark as he stands the bike up it bounces and then tries to signal a mechanical problem and...
