I have netflix, amazon, and cable. Cable is fantastic.

Time Warner's customer service was far from fantastic when I used to deal with them.

Same for AT&T UVerse.

And getting bent over by their billing department wasn't exactly what I would call "fantastic" either.

I need to figure out how to stream things off the internet through my PS3 so I can stop watching them on my laptop.

I dont know about streaming it to the PS3...but I use the HDMI out on my laptop right into the tv...

I turned on Verizon Fios in 2005. Our neighborhood was the first neighborhood built out in CA when it started. I had Time Warner which constantly went down, internet issues, billing problems, etc. Fios has never been down a single time ever. Customer service has been fine on the two or three times in eight years that I have needed to call to change features or whatever. Now it's all done online. I dumped their boxes for a tivo and a cable card to save money and use a Roku for UFC but other then that it's fantastic.

As far as direct streaming to the tv, what about chromecast?

Funny you should mention that...

Right after I posted that, I jumped on ebay and ordered an adapter to hook an HDMI cable to my laptop.

I have Direct TV... But that's just for the football.  The rest of the time, I usually only watch Netflix.

My wife and Father wont let me get rid of Dish. Dish is fine, I even watch it. But if I could make it go by by, I wouldn't miss it a bit. Wouldn't miss the $118 a month bill either.

Exactly.  I went from around $220 a month with the comcrap triple play down to about $80 for internet only.  I did pay a little extra to keep the "bonus" speed they lump in with the triple play package.

The real issues ive got with it: $140/mo for cable or $10/mo for netflix...and netflix is commercial free.  How does THAT make sense.  That being said, I would probably pay $5/mo per channel if I could get ONLY the channels I want. (Thinks like DIY, Discovery, HGTV, Velocity...)  They offer "700" channels, 30% are in another language, 25% are music stations that suck even compared to FREE pandora, and then you get 14 versions of the home shopping network.  Please. I went from about $220 a month to $138 with Fios +Tivo. Ditching the fios boxes and buying the tivo box saved a bunch and dumping phone service saved even more. They show phone as only being about $20 of the package but when you dump it you save about $50 with all the taxes/fees. I had Netflix but just cancelled it. They really don't have any brand new current TV and all the movies are available on amazon prime for free. I also have a Roku to watch UFC. UFC on Roku is way better because it's $10 less ($45) and you get HD, plus all the weigh ins and pre and post fight conferances.

Someone please help me convince the wife to dump the cable. The kids don't really watch much and besides most of what we do watch is on the net. I would love to tell Time Warner to Eff Off.

We have 2 laptops and a PS3. What else us needed to cut the cord. I need some good hard evidence to push her over the cliff

My girlfriend just followed my lead and canceled hers as well.  Her "jumping off" point was when she tallied up the time she spent in front of it each week.  Granted it wasnt very much, but she looked at it like "30 minutes before work and an hour after work is almost 8 hours just on week days...which in her mind she could have spent getting more exercise for the pooch."

And can you really blame her?  Who would want to park in front of the TV when you could be making this guys life more enjoyable!?

I did the math and that is what made me drop cable. Going from the Comcast triple play to just internet (13mb, which works fine for Netflix movies) I save about $125 a month. $125x12=$1500 savings. What could anyone do with $1500 extra? I was freaked out for about a day or two, then not having cable wasn't a big deal. I would say drop it, if it doesn't work you can get it hooked up again.
