I'll be taking a month off again next year.  For 2014 I choose the month with the fewest days  .

Mary got tired of waking up feeling like shit. When the 2 or 3 beers turned into 3 or 4 (or 5) and then a whiskey too, well the timing seems perfect.  Plus, think of all the $$ I will save!

This thread just made me think of a story.

It was told to me by a guy that works at a local tattoo joint and used to frequent a bar that I worked at.


So Rob was telling me about one time when he decided he wanted to quit drinking for a month or so.

He was saying that he found it interesting that when somebody quits smoking or doing drugs everybody is incredibly supportive and never asks things like "why?", but that that isn't the case if you decide to stop drinking.

So because people were constantly questioning him about his motivation for this endeavor, he started ordering a tonic on the rocks with a lime and a cocktail stir.

While hanging out one night at a bar he occasionally worked at, he noticed 3 girls sitting at a table nearby and he thought they might be checking him out.

After a while, he got a text from some friends and was getting ready to head out to go meet them when one of the girls approached him.

"Hey" she says with a grin.  "My car's right outside, can I take you somewhere?"

"This's my lucky make the beast with two backsin' night" Rob thinks to himself.  "Yeah, that sounds awesome.  Where did you have in mind?"

"Oh, wherever you're headed.  My friends and I couldn't help but notice you had 22 gin and tonics and thought maybe you shouldn't be driving."

That's both so right and so wrong.

So I quit drinking in April of 2012.

I saved so much money in a year was able to take an MSF course and buy a Ducati.

I had to quit drinking (but I still cheat much to my wife's chagrin) due to health problems. Those are under control now (doing fine now thank you) but I too was amazed at how much $$ went for booze at dinner, etc... But damn I miss a good cold beer or a top shelf marg at dinner. Doh!... ala Homer Simpson. Probably shouldn't say that in this thread!

Still proud of you pesto whatever your reasons. Trading beer/booze for MSF course and a Duc is a great trade.

I spend just under $1,000.00 a year on alcohol.

I did have one beer yesterday. Nothing on new years eve or day.

Since I cut back, I am sleeping better.

Thanks man! Now to get in better shape for track days 

Post christmas detox is on track, going without alcohol I can handle, going without coffee is a whole other kettle of herbal tea.
