Had another ass wipe try to flog the missus' bicycle overnight - this time using a battery powered angle grinder to cut through the rack it was bolted to.. He then made it half way through the chain (Thick ABUS one) when he got spooked by someone and bolted off.

I am absolutely AMAZED at the effort this prick went to.
I get that it's inner city living - I get that if I don't lock my bike (even in the security garage area) then I can expect it to get knocked off - but this sort of crap is just astounding.

Am a guessing it was a elcheapo aldi grinder, and the battery went flattery, and went home to recharge it

I am an ex New South Welshman...and us SA lot are just a bunch of lone wolves (not associated or affiliated with said motorcycle gang lol).  Besides Adelaide does have some fun roads, not half as many   issues - we sort of fly under the radar, especially for mods to your bike.

As to Whirlpool, frequents sort of, mostly a lurker...

Brian Wood and Christopher Burns met with the Motor Accidents Authority on Tuesday to discuss Greenslips for motorcycles. We are looking at possible ways to improve the system and one suggestion is to remove the 5 categories of engine capacity as the numbers are too small to be able to accurately determine risk.

The figures shown indicate that the relativity for the 1125 to 1325 capacity are too high and this group may see a reduction when Ernst and Young submit the new relativities later in the year. According to the MAA figures the average Greenslip price paid for an 1125 to 1325 is $570 ex GST. I'd be interested to know if anyone has actually paid a Greenslip that low for that category.

Remember that Monaland and the MCC of NSW are offering a fleet rate for motorcycle greenlsips for riders over 30 years of age and they are the cheapest in NSW bar none and you won't find them on the Greenslip calculator.

My suggestion to improve the system would be to remove green slips from the registration system and apply them to the licencing system ... you would pay according to the licence you hold and your driving record. You would also be properly covered if you (legally) borrowed a vehicle. If there was a particular class of vehicle that they could prove caused more accidents* ... then maybe you could ping them for a slight premium at registration renewal as well.


* Because we are talking about greenslips they are meant to cover drivers at fault for injuries to others. It still puzzles me how motorcycles can cause so many more accidents and cause so much more personal damage than other vehicles (greenslip relativities) ... I also realise that the rules have changed in recent years regarding catastrophic injuries but it still doesn't make much sense.
