So...I Crashed

Had a bit of a crash yesterday on the KTM. About 7 miles south of Livermore, CA on Mines Road...I let the red mist get the best of me and went too hot into a shady right hander...there was gravel across my lane, and I couldn't see it because of the shade. Both tires lost traction at once, and I low-sided (sorry folks, no video). Had I not been dropping the hammer, I would've seen it in time. I came out of it in good shape considering...

DAMAGE (ME):

  • A minor laceration on my right pinky finger.
  • Severely bruised pride.
  • Bruises and minor scrapes on my right side.

DAMAGE (BIKE/EQUIPMENT):

  • Destroyed a nice CRG Lanesplitter mirror.
  • Bent and mangled a handlebar guard
  • Broke the front brake lever off (rode 50+ miles home with rear brakes + engine compression)
  • Ground the front & rear axle sliders - They did their job!
  • Possibly bent handlebar clamp or handlebar
  • Two-piece Alpinestars leathers
  • Rev-It! Gloves destroyed
  • Possibly damaged my AGV Rossi helmet ( :-[)

LESSONS LEARNED:

  • Fight the red mist...
  • Trust your instincts: everything in my rational mind was telling me to slow down.
  • Winter riding means more stuff on the road, even if it hasn't rained in a while.
  • SLOW DOWN...it had been nearly a year since I rode Mines.
  • Supermotos crash pretty well...40 year old bodies don't.
  • Dress for the crash: my Alpinestars did a phenomenal job.

Be careful out there folks. Even in the driest of winters.

Glad your OK too. Maybe you should go out there and put up a road sign warning of shaded curve ahead watch for debris.  ;D
