Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.

...we can only control so much...all it takes is a careless/reckless nutbag in a cage :'(

quite a terrible incident and a very unfortunate circumstance ...  R.I.P. and best wishes for all involved.
I'm quite curious to know what the car driver's reason would be for causing this ... inattentiveness, pressing on gas pedal instead of breaks, health issues, car mechnical problem ??

New York 1 reported this morning that the driver of the car was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired!
What good is money if it can't inspire terror in your fellow man?

This is 3 minutes from my apartment and about 1/2 a block from where I park.

S.I. Man Arrested In Connection With Deadly Manhattan Car Crash
July 22, 2008

A Staten Island man is under arrest in connection with a deadly car accident yesterday near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in Lower Manhattan.

Police have arrested Adam Greenberg, 31, and charged him with reckless driving and driving while impaired.

They say Greenberg crashed into two motorcycles on South Street yesterday afternoon.

Dimitrios Kazanas, 39, was killed. The other rider was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say Greenberg's car hit the cyclists from behind before jumping the curb at the ferry terminal and coming to rest on a cement traffic barrier. Greenberg was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

That's terrible.  RIP.

Some things are out of our control.  This is another reason why I always watch behind me while stopped at a light.

I hate to admit that I have become a little numb after reading about so many motorcycle deaths over the past few years since I returned to riding. I guess its human nature to acknowledge the intrinsic risks of riding while at the same time distancing yourself from that reality by believing on some level that "it" won't happen to you. Like I said, I have become a little numb to these stories--I read them, get upset or angry and then a few minutes later I move on; however, this one has stayed with me. This could have been anyone of us riding in New York City. The motorcyclist, just 39 years old, was just sitting at a red light and because of a "reckless" and "impaired" driver, his life was taken. As sad as this story is, what truely bothers me is knowing that I will read many similar stories before the summer is over. I will ride today, but it will be bittersweet. Sorry, but I just needed to vent.

There seems to be an uptick on the board in the last few weeks with riders getting pummeled while at redlight.  scary.

That was my first thought when my GF called me about the accident today she wanted me to make sure nobody on here was involved.  With how many of us that go through the city on a regular basis it really hits close to home. :-[

BIG +1 to this.  If I am at a light and there is no car behind me I will be checking my mirror ready to move if I see someone coming quick.  I don't do it so much out of the city, but in the boroughs about 95% of the time.

Yeah me too, you're never safe though... I had a girl beind me for 2 full minutes and she decided to gas it into my back while the light was still red! Even if someone is behind you sitting you're never safe anymore, these people SUCK!

This story makes me pissed off.
