No opinions really needed this time, I just bought one! This will serve as my first track-dedicated bike. They were still carbed on 02 but not a big deal. Just rode it a bit tonight and it pulls very hard and very smooth, can't wait to get to Road America on the 4th.

Leaving the road gear on or track prepping her?
Any mods? Were the carbs jetted for the pipe?

Leaving the road gear on for now, so that I can ride it some and get used to it. Eventually I'll probably look for some track plastics for it though. No way of knowing what the jet situation is, previous owner didn't know and only had the bike for a year.

Annnnnnnnd now I'm looking for a bike again...

Took this to Road America on the 4th and totaled it in turn 1 during the 5th session. That was an expensive day.

Trying to turn a negative into a positive though, nothing like demolishing something Japanese at a track called Road America on a beautiful Independence Day.  [Dolph]

Wow.
How did you progress on the bike during the day before the crash?
You ok?

I low sided in turn 1. A frame slider turned a low side into a high side for the bike, totaling it. I started to slide on the pavement but then I too ended up rolling. I only ended up with a broken big toe and some sore muscles. Pretty great considering I hit the pavement somewhere between 80-90 mph.

As for what caused it, I have no way of telling for sure. My best guess is this: there's a bump in the middle of turn 1. I think maybe I hit that bump while accelerating instead of at maintenance throttle. The shitty OEM suspension and my lack of experience combined for some wheel spin and away I went. That's my best guess.

I learned a hard lesson. Throughout the day I was definitely progressing and was seriously loving my first day on an inline 4. It was also my first day in the Intermediate group. I was running around the middle of the pack, granted guys "slower" than me went home with undamaged bikes. : )

I'm already on the lookout for a track-prepped bike and saving my pennies, can't wait to get back.

Bummer man. The positive is you're OK.

That's why I don't run frame sliders, or if I do they're under the bodywork. Too bad you're not in the northwest...my race-prepped '03 R6 will likely be for sale soon...cheap.

ChrisK

Yeah that is too bad, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Something reliable, injected, and fully prepped. There's an 05 R6 for sale near me, and I'm also considering a Daytona 675, both are fully prepped.

Ouch...that's a fast corner to crash in (usually in the neighborhood of 95-100mph on the GSXR750 there).

For future reference on RA, that bump is only there off the "racing line". If you are within 12 inches or so of the racing line, it isn't enough to upset the chassis even on the throttle but you get off the line and maintaining the throttle is paramount to not getting loose.

Glad to hear you are *mostly* OK.
