Anybody use the tie downs made by black & gray?  It's pricy at $48 for each.

I need to get a good tie down to avoid another trailer related accident.  Therefore I am considering getting it.

Spent a good amount of time moving around bikes this past summer and I was told that the Ancra brand is the best.  Used them all summer long and they held up really well.  You can find them on Amazon... pick up some of their soft straps too and you're good to go.

I like the ones with the carabiner on the end instead of a hook
seems more secure
also saw a new one that has a combo lock and a wire in the strap
could be cut...but wont walk away as easily

I use 1" ratchet straps that I get from work. I've seem them hold thousands of pounds worth of staging equipment with no worries whatsoever. We have a lot of them. If you want some, PM me your address and I'll send some your way.

No hooks on the end of them but I've used them to haul my own bike all over and never had any problems with keeping it secure.

Dare I ask what happened?

Good info here about the tie-downs.

As for what happened, my bike was launched off a trailer while in motion.  That is why I am trying to find a more secure tie down.  The trailer accident was an issue with not balancing the bike correctly and checking it was secure after a 2nd bike was removed from the trailer.  In other words, it wasn't really a tie down issue rather a user error :-(. It was traumatic.  I posted it here back in 2010.  So I am trying to be extra cautious this time as I prepare to go to deals gap in a few weeks for my first time.
