Never minded "true" cafe bikes back in the day. Even owned a Rickman Matisse for a while in the '70's..., but all these "caffed" bikes seem more punk than cafe..., like a woman with no derriere. 

Can't grasp the chopped tail look on modern modded bikes either. To me they look "incomplete".

Faired would be cool..., but they'll screw that up too...  With the exception of the "fly in the paint", there was nothing wrong with the original!

Trends do come and go, the "Cafe bike" is the lattest in bike to build.  Funny how alot of chopper shops are doing them now that the Chopper fad has died down.  As far as custom bike trends go the cafe bikes are the ones I find my self liking the most.  I still prefer the older bike with more modern suspension look.  Here is an interesting article on the custom bike scene, I don't agree with everything but he does make some good points.

there was, at some point, a greenframe (i think, 75 900ss maybe?) supplied to someone with a rather unfortunate (for it anyway) fly under the clear coat on the fuel tank.  it is now the stuff of legend, etc.

Couldn't have been THAT uncommon on a '73 750 SS as I nearly bought one in NJ like that myself! Bought an early R90S instead.

This 750 was based on Hailwood's 500 GP MV IIRC. One of the nicest for sure but VERY expensive even back then!

Thats a nicely modded Carl Fogerty! They've got a used Foggy at my local Duc Shop. Its not that nice though. Pretty much stock.
