I've been pricing out getting the ECU reflashed just to disable the imobilizer on my 2005 620 and the cheapest I've found is $250. That seems a bit steep for something like that. No?

Be interesting to see if that is also the rate for a remap for mods. Do they have prices for different types of remaps or is it a set fee irrespective of what is chaged?

you could always spend hours and hours developing software to do it yourself and then watch that get ripped off and distributed for free all around the place and then see how bitter you are.  seems to be how most of the developers go.

most places doing it will be using the rexxer tools.  these are a credit based tool, as in the person who is doing it for you is paying a fee to rexxer per flash.  if they're selling it at $250 then they really aren't making too much out of it i'd say.  you have to buy the credits in lots, and your tool always has to have one credit left to be able to accept more.  i think you can buy 5 in the usa, but in au we have to buy at least 10.  30 are much cheaper per flash, but that's still a $4,000 or so investment for something that you then have to sell slowly.  i think i've sold 4 rexxer flashes in the time i've had my tool, and it has also cost me a huge amount of money in lost time.  like a few thousand dollars.

i have other tools that are not credit based, but they are not readily available and cost in the $4,000 range.  so you take a punt and hope you get a return.

the tuneboy is also credit based, and the return on that as a retail thing i think has been increased recently, so it's a similar return to the rexxer for the retailer.

or use guzzidiag from free.  the xdf files seem to have immo off capacity.  that way you can avoid paying anyone.

I figured it would be a franchise type thing, so the supplier has a recommended retail price guide. Does it work like $100 for this, $150 for this, $200 for this, or is it just every time you do a download, you activate a credit use and therefore the same set cost is rung up? I suppose it's about price structure then, of which the retailer doesn't always have full control.
If that's the case then, if you go for a reflash you better get the full monty and not just one item changed. Brad, is that how it works?

Putting it in perspective, if you want more then the immobilizer disabled and mapping done, think of the cost of pulling carbs apart, servicing and jetting them, etc.
