I haven't ridden the SF848 but keep hearing the engine is so much smoother than the 1100 EVO. Also when initally getting my EVO I was heavily comparing the two. The seating on the SF was better for me, its a little taller and I'm 6 ft 3 but I always like the monsters and found a great deal on one so I went with the monster. I ride half city half highway and most ppl suggested the monster handles the city way better.

I've ridden it all summer and the bike is great but I find myself looking at the SF a lot and lusting over it.  Having some buyer remorse I guess.

The two bikes are actually very different.  I bought my Monster 1100 EVO new in 2011 as a 2012 model and the SF848 came out about 6 months later.  My dealer had a yellow one as a demo model and I rode it a few times and was smitten with it each time.  It is definitely smoother and I think it is a better city bike than the M1100 by far.  That said, the seat is not very comfortable but then the seat on the Monster isn't very comfortable either.  The riding position on the SF848 is a bit more aggressive too IMO and the SF lacks TC and ABS but it handles well and it is a rev happy puppy that I just love to play with.

I probably would have bought the SF848 if it had been available and I had ridden it before I bought my bike.  I came from a high-revving liquid-cooled V-twin to a relatively low revving air-cooled L-twin so it was a big adjustment for me.  I've had my M1100 EVO for 3 years and put over 15,000 miles on it... I think the SF848 would suit me better but I'm not rich so I'm keeping the Monster for now.

The end may be near for the SF's. Will they climb in value like the Sport 1Ks as they become more scarce? If they stopped making Monsters tomorrow there are definitely way more out there than SF's. I like em both but why are you not considering the 1200? Thats got SSA & is more comfortable than both the 1100 & SF.

And I'd agree that the sf1098 isnt the best at low speeds, I'm sure my clutch is going to die faster from all the NYC traffic... but I tend to choose my bikes on how much I love them vs how practical they are.  I'm willing to deal with minor issues for the SF and chalk it up to character but a perfectly practical bike tends just become boring to me.

Ride them all and choose the one that reminds you why you started riding in the first place

All true...but if you are a full blooded hooligan with some skills and have a die hard Ducati heart then the SF1098 is the only way to go!   

i found the 1098sf a real let down.  certainly not the animal i was expecting.

You must have a different set of standards. What were you expecting? Or was that a teasing, tongue-in-cheek kind of statement?

dunno.

i find a 1098 more aggressive, the sf just seems to not be as responsive as the sbk.  i keep waiting for them to do big wheelies, but they don't without provocation.  maybe i'm just more comfortable on the sbk .

Did you try it with the TC off?  Evidently there is a function that kills wheelies unless it's off... it never really comes up for me unless I disable it.  But with it off it comes up real fast.

dunno, i don't adjust settings like that on customer bikes.

That reminds me, I need to check the TC settings since I did my valve adjustment.  I usually leave it off.

It's such a personal question and come down to which seating position you like better and how much you care about the sound -- which is infinitely better and more ducati on the air-cooled monster. The sf 848 will be far better in the city.

I want to ride and SFS to see what it's like! I hear it's a beast that's not easy to master. I rode the 1098 sbk and i found the 1199 so much easier to ride.

P.s. this is the best ducati forum by far and the new monster, at least the 1200s I've ridden, is completely devoid of character. I find the multi and the Diavel make much better use of the same engine.

I was relly suprised how big the new 1200 looked in person, the seat also looks really low and cruiser like, it even looked heavy sitting there, wasn't feeling it.

The EVO's motor, torquey and a lot smoother after my MW reflash and custom Bazzaz tune was great, however I felt really cramped on the bike even with the DP comfort seat. Just felt too small for me.

The SF fits just right, I prefer the fit, height, and riding position just so much more. I just feel the bike is for me. The engine is smooth and powerful. Although I did really like the EVO even though I felt like I needed to shift more. All in all beloved EVO is gone and I am atop a new SF848.

i want a hyper SP since you mention height and riding position.

but i'm glad you like the SF -- better engine a will be sought after like the SCs soon.
