Looking for a rear wheel with (hopefully) all the following qualifications:

17mm axle (I could change bearings if need be)
40-spoke wire wheel
chain drive on left side
disc brake on right side
4.25" to 4.5" width (although I can change the hoop if need be)

I keep finding 3 out of 5 when I look around...

Please post up ANYTHING close if you know for certain you have at least 3 out of the 5.

My first thought would be an older chain drive non-Sportster Harley (you said non-Ducati ) wheel.  Axle size is wrong but the other 4 look right.  Maybe a shop that specializes in custom HDs could help.

You'll need to change the hoop for sure.
I don't think anything came with 40 spokes and 4"+ hoop.

Not sure about 17mm axle, IIRC they're about 20mm or so.
Perhaps the smaller Kwackers had disc and small axle.

Most wheels don't care if they're sprocket left / disc right, only a few I've seen have asymmetrical cush drives.

That "seems" to be the only one I can find.  1" axle will need to be reduced to 17mm, but outside of that...  I should have it all covered.  Perhaps it's time to integrate some HD bits into my build.

Similar era Honda CB750 F1 had disc & 40 spoke rear.

Triumph Thunderbird Sport has a 4.25" or 4.5" rear rim, can't remember which.  A buddy is putting a set on his Harris/Bandit.  I think this is 4 of 5.  I'll ask him about the axle, it might be is 20mm.

The 20mm axle might be a problem for wheel bearings.  Apparently at some point there were no options for OD to ID to replace that... OD for the bearing on a 20mm axle appears to want to be 52mm, and 17mm ID didn't come in that OD.

There are 20 id x 47 od and similar and use sleeves on the 17mm axle if it needs to be used.

I did find a VXB bearing which is 17mm ID x 52mm OD x 15mm width.  Just don't know if that's a brand I can trust.

Found that tidbit yesterday on some random kawasaki forum talking about using that KZ1000 wheel on something with a 17mm axle.

Can't find the link again, so I don't know when the bearing research was done.

Also found this from Koyo:

Hardened steel sleeve, 17mm ID by 20mm OD by 30.5mm long.  Granted, it would be a pain to stack up so many to make this spacer along the entire axle length, and wheel swaps would be a bear...  But, at $22 each, it could be a cheap fix if the special 17x52x15 bearings are crappy...
