IZ - if he keeps with grappling get some ear guards. He might not think they are cool/want to wear - but Cauliflower ear sucks a ton

As has been said, for kids as young as your son, it's mostly structured romper-room. A good instructor, regardless of the discipline is key. Instructing kids is way different than adults.

Something else to look into when he's a bit older, with a high outside component - Free running/parcour(!)

Thanks..good suggestion.  Rather not have the cauliflower ear-look.  

Do you do parkour and/or wrestle Slide?

We watch a couple of groups that practice parkour regularly at the beach.  I've also taken him to and have worked out at the Firestorm Gym.  This place is >5 min from the gymnastics facility.

Getting back to Martial Arts..we also go to Butokuden quite often to watch the kids practice Aikido and Kendo.  Not quite old enough to start here though.
