Being taller I would want the bars a little high.
Any thoughts on whats better, just using risers or replacing the whole bar with an aftermarket one.

I am thinking of raising the handle bars with some extenders.
Do you all think this will affect the handling character of the bike.
I can live with the stock bar but would be a little more comfortable if it was an inch higher.
I don't want to make this change if it will affect the bike a lot because the handling is so good the way it is now.
Your thoughts please.

How tall are you ? And what problem are you trying to solve with bar riser?

In most case, fitting a bar with different bend (and usually they are a bit higher than stock) is a better solution.

I am 6'2".
The riding position is ok but on long rides I feel it would be better if I could sit a bit more upright,

Hmmm... A slightly higher Rizoma bar costs little more than risers and has more sweep which is much kinder on your wrists!  (You'll have to drill the locating holes for the controls.) A bit less vibration too.

Ah, okay. I don’t know how it feels like to be “too tall” for Monster.
BUT, the same logic applies here. If you want “slightly more upright” riding position, often times, all you need is to move the grips (hand controls) a bit closer, NOT higher, with more comfortable / natural sweep back angle of the grips.

As for if it affects the handling of the bike, if you move only a small amount (eg, no need to change throttle cable, clutch & brake lines, you’re fine.

Could I just rotate the handle bar backwards a bit? or do I need to replace the bar with an after market one

The MA 008's have ~ 3/4" more rise and 2 1/2" more sweep than the stock 796 bar, about the limit of the lines and cables.

Around $150 - $200 tops all-in including the bar. Depends on your dealer's labor rate. In South Jersey? Call Ferracci and ask. You should have everything adjusted and drilled while you sit on the bike.

I am in-between Ferraci and the Metuchen dealership, I call them both.

No experience with Metuchen but are you sure you want to ride to Northern NJ.    Isn't that a Kawasaki dealership?  Maybe they are wonderful. I'd ask somebody local though.

Ferracci only sells and works on Italian machines. I'd guess they'd be more sympathetic to your needs but it's been eons since I last did business with Eraldo. Your call. Maybe his son, Larry, runs the place now? No clue.

Did you ever fit a 14T front sprocket? It's cheap and they could do that for you too. Just be sure to get the right one as it only fits the M796 and Hyper 796, Driven Racing #1067-525-14T.
