Wazzup bros and pregnant doges!!   I sport a lid to protect my grill from grindage.  I'm mad hot and I don't wanna mess that up when I ride my Ducati.  My pregnant dog is MAD hot too.  And as long as she's on my tip I'm wearing my lid.  Cause if I messed that up she'd be on some other bro's tip.

P.S.  I'm HOT!!
I work out too.

Little bit of vanity never hurt anyone.  There's nothing wrong with being aware you're easy on the eyes.

Personally though, if she is only with you cause your pretty, your aim is wrong.  If you have to some on the side, then either she is no good in the sack, or you aren't; causing her to not bother with the effort and the side ones to discover it quick enough to get out.

That being said, I put one on even though I don't have to.  Attracting someone that is easy on the eyes can be nice, but attracting someone that you like to look at AND talk to is a little bit more important.  Crashing my bare dome would likely make the latter far more difficult, especially if I am not around afterwards.

... I'm totally cool with my friends saying "You remember when William bit it?!  That was awesome!  How do you explode in a fireball while being crushed under a waterfall?!  I don't think I'll beat that..."

Haha... talking about bike fashion, I picked up my new BMW GS Adv this evening.. I took the really long way home and I just realized why people were generally moving out of the way and then staring and pointing. 1 piece leather suit worn and wearing worn pucks, worn (race) boots, full face helmet on top of this gargantuan bike. As you can tell, fashion isn´t my number one priority.

Long way home like this:

You need to go out and drop a couple grand on some Motorad and/or Aerostitch attire.
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

In Texas, the land of sweaty balls [...] I wear one all year around including the off season (June-July-August).

Just one sweaty ball?

I´m not that crazy, yet  ;D

I´m waiting for my Rukka Lancelot suit - it´s a Gore Tex Pro Shell garment that is totally perforated, treated leather with a Gore Tex membrane that you wear all year round. It keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. It´s totally waterproof (kind of like BMW Atlantis suit) and lets out heat and humidity when it´s hot.. sounds really cool. Price isn´t really cool at 2000EURO.

Can you buy Rukka in the USA?

For the break-in period I think I´m going to ride to Portugal or France.. I´ll let fate decide. It´ll be a day trip though. Anyone up for a road trip?

I haven't put a lot of thought into it but I believe there should be some sort of insurance adjustment if you are involved in an accident without proper riding gear.[...]

So the person that wears gloves, leather, over the ankle boots, and full helmet gets full coverage in the even of an accident.

Those that get into an accident without gear get reduced coverage from what they were actually paying for.[...]

Again, I don't know.  I haven't thought this out.

This is a really interesting idea.  It's like being overweight or smoking, and paying more for health insurance, but after the fact instead of before.  Yeah, there are probably reasons why it'd backfire, or not be politically feasible (taking away previously purchased coverage, for example).  But it sure makes sense from a managing-your-losses business perspective, for the insurance companies.

ObAnswerToTheActualQuestionAsked:

I always wear helmet, gloves, jacket, pants.  Almost always wear boots; I've worn sneakers for a short trip once or twice, although this felt really odd.  Never ridden without a helmet, and never intend to.

After crashing in blue jeans years ago, jeans feel inadequate.  I've worn them since, but only while waiting for my full riding suit to arrive.  Now it's always a full suit, even when it's hot.

I like my brain, and my skin; both of them consistently make my rides more enjoyable.  If I only get to keep one, I'll keep the brain.  But I prefer not to have to give either one up.

its probably not the best thing to do but when i'm idling about downtown (where i live) i will wear sneakers, jeans, t-shirt, gloves and 3/4 helmet. I am sure i can hurt myself a bit more than if i am on my bicycle in shorts and no gloves (starting to think i need a helmet for the bicycle, summer is almost over) but i am aware of this and ride very defensively and cautiously.

i don't like to do more than about 40 without a kevlar long sleeved shirt and proper riding shoes that cover my ankles... the shirt won't do anything for impact but it's better than a lot of things for abrasion.

if i am on any sort of a 'ride' it's at least a mesh jacket with armour. i may or may not switch to a full-face helmet (i have 2) depending on roads/speed etc.
i have the pants but only put them on when i'm feeling aggressive. i find i am more cautious when not dressed in full gear.

my preference is back roads, slow, open face helmet, mesh jacket. and no bugs please, i've eaten enough.

i can't believe someone would not wear a helmet, and gloves!! all the time i see guys with no gloves.

i've been riding 32 years, from 50cc honda minibike on up, i've had a few tip-overs, slides, low sides etc, nothing serious, a couple of rear-enders (one at 1mph, and one that scared me enough to make me take a break for a few years) and one really good Bam-through-the-air-wakeup-on-the-ground. and yes i had a beer or two. it's amazing i survived 19 at all. i have nothing to prove anymore, and assume the risks inherent to motorcycling. for me it's part of the experience now.

Florida here - When I first moved here from I got rid of my bike. No turns and way too hot, especially just sitting and baking at a stoplight. Then they changed the helmet law and I wanted to get a bike again. When i did, I still wore a helmet, but as of late i've ditched it. Even bought a new helmet to help me wanna wear one. But, it hasn't worked...

What I've noticed, helmetless, is that I have much better vision periferaly. I can hear better and I ride slower due to all the wind noise and feel. So, i ride safer w/o a helmet in that sense. I'm used to it now and prefer not to wear one. When I do I feel really confined. Yeah, it is STUPID, but I feel that I ride safer and have a better perception of my surroundings. if i die, I die.... - So it goes...

(snip)

I like the idea, though the main purpose of moto or auto insurance is to cover your liability if you damage someone else's vehicle and (for the most part) hurt someone with your vehicle. If you purchase more coverage, it'll help replace or repair your vehicle if it's damaged. Neither is much affected by your gear choices.

The places that gear vs. none would show up are in medical insurance and life insurance. Oddly enough, I just purchased life insurance through the same company that covers our house, cars & motorcycles and went through the whole lifestyle quiz. The interviewer spent probably 20 minutes or more grilling me about what kind of rock climbing I do (these days it's almost entirely easy bouldering & top-roping stuff that would bore your average 14 year old) but not a single question about the motorcycles!  [laugh]

They offer discounts for cars with all sorts of safety equipment like airbags, anti-lock breaks and such.  Why not decline full coverage when the rider isn't taking proper precautions while riding.

So the person that wears gloves, leather, over the ankle boots, and full helmet gets full coverage in the even of an accident.

Those that get into an accident without gear get reduced coverage from what they were actually paying for.

Or perhaps have a higher optional rate that will cover you in the event you get into an accident without gear.

And those without gear that have high medical expenses due to an accident have paid for it themselves.
Again, I don't know.  I haven't thought this out.

Some people need more incentive to be safe other than their life.  Make it cost more.   That way people have the option to not wear lids, but have to offset the option monetarily.

i think this makes perfect sense -- but do it differently.

you commit to wearing certain gear -- and that determines your policy coverage and cost.

if you are in a wreck and not wearing that gear, then you get denied any coverage at all.

so if you commit to wearing helmet, CE jacket, gloves, pants and boots, you get a policy for the cheapest, and on up for each item less.

I would go for that.  i never ride without helmet, jacket, gloves and boots.  sometimes i will wear pants, but i can't always swing that.
