VW In Trouble With The EPA.

Heard on the news that they got busted for software that gets around emissions tests. If I understand it correctly, in test mode the vehicle complies but reverts to a performance map for customer use.  VW head honcho has now resigned.
They envisage a huge recall and prosecution.
Anyone heard about this and implications?

I think VW is just the canary in the coal mine. I'd wager there will be a few more.....

The auto industry is being driven to desperation by stringent regulations while trying to keep vehicles affordable. U.S. CAFE rules are set to order up a 54 mpg standard for cars in country by 2025. Seems wildly optimistic to me given it's only a decade away, and I can only imagine the impact on new car cost then.

Will this have impact on Ducati? I believe other than the fact that Audi owns them, it should not. These were only on diesel engines.
