I've always had a love affair with the ~1997-09 e-class mbz sedans.

I looked around online but didn't find anything real valuable, so I'm wondering if the broad experience of DMF has any experience with these cars?  repairs? common problems?

Any concerns with buying a high mileage specemin?  Most I see for sale online are in the 75-100k range for miles, some even higher.

I only drive my car a few times a week, put about 2500-3000 miles a year, so I don't need something new and fancy that's just going to sit in the driveway.

Tom (infoage) is the one to talk to about those. He is local as well. I'll send you his email.

Just remember the maintenance hasn't gotten any cheaper even though the cars have.

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

I know I sold mine after doing 4 separate 6k services in one year.  :P

I asked a buddy who does that sort of thing for a living.

"In order of the chassis, W210 oil leak from the front of the head gasket and disintegrating engine wiring harness insulation. Sometimes bad ignition coils. W211 oil leaks from the valve cover gaskets and a reputation for more electrical issues. W212 oil leaks from some plugs on the back of the heads which are really easy to replace. Look up the balance shaft issue on the V-6. The ignition switch and steering lock can be problematic and Mercedes really doesn't want to sell them to independent shops unless you've done all the paperwork and post d a bond. They're what Mercedes calls TRP theft related parts. The shifter and transmission valve also are in that category.

The W210 head gasket oil leak is a high mileage item.

The rest is wear and tear stuff like control arm bushings, engine mounts, driveline flex couplers and various cooling system parts like the water pump. If you're looking at an AMG add the Airmatic suspension as a high maintenance item."
