First time in this forum
I have a 2013 Monster 796 that has ~3.9k miles on it. I garaged it the first year, but then insurance + garage was overkill (to me), and it's been in the apartment parking lot since.
I haven't really taken good care of it -- all I've done is clean and lube the chain 3-4 times and clean the bike once in 3-4 months.
I didn't use it the last 4-5 months, and the battery is dead. The rear brake doesn't work and the front brake feels like it's losing pressure (need to squeeze multiple times to build it up).
I towed it to the dealership nearby and they recommended I do the desmo (12k) service.

The bill is ~1300$, not including battery replacement and tire replacement. The front tire probably has 500-1000 miles on it, and the rear 1000-1500.

Should I go ahead with the service considering the bike's age, or just get the brake and battery fixed?

Do the belts, battery, oil change, and tires.

Thanks, any ballpark figure on cost?
Right now, parts is ~300 and labor is ~960.

Changing belts is fairly simple and the savings will be in labor as the valve adjust is likely the most expensive labor item.

I can't say what the cost will be.

If the brakes are wonky, I'd be inclined to flush and bleed them. You can do that yourself without much expense or effort.

And because I'm cheap, I'd try charging the battery and see if it still holds a charge before chucking it.

I find any mechanical work on the bike to be daunting. Probably a combination of not having a garage (have to finish what I start soon) and just fear of messing things up

Brake fluid should be changed yearly anyway.  If the brakes are not satisfactory after that, then worry.  I won't disagree with the dealer's advice about doing the whole service, not a bad idea since you are doing much of it anyway.  I also won't disagree with ducpainter on holding off on the valves.  Lots of miles between now and 12K.  You could price it both ways then decide.  Battery sitting 4 to 5 months?  It is worth charging and load testing it first.  Why do you think the bike needs new tires?  If they were kept inflated and there are no visible signs of damage you should be fine.

If he's got 4K on the original Rosso II rear, it's about time, anyway.

Step one... Learn how to bleed your brake system. with it sitting for several months, i'd flush and replace the fluids in the clutch and brake system.. not hard to do.
Try giving the battery a charge then check the battery.. if it's not up to snuff, change the battery.

change your oil every 3k miles... belts should be changed every 2 years or 12k miles.

with so few miles and (assuming) no motor mods, I doubt the valves will be outta spec.
