I'm pretty sure Chris...Statler...had those on his S4RS. I think that's his bike in the pic.

I might be able to get a length for the rod from him so Kev could thread some rod. that would make it a DIY kit...which would be awesome.

Let me know if you guys want me to get in touch with him.

Might as well. I'll need the length to figure material costs anyhow.

Eye to eye (screw hole in the rod end) is 190mm.

The rod is 160mm assuming ~half of it sits inside the rod end.

This product should be a couple of mm shorter since the original forces the screen up.

Good enough for a material estimate Kev?

Probably, yes.

What are they being made out of?

I was thinking aluminum, but I don't have a fairing on my Monster. It got ripped off by me flying through it years ago and it was the old style anyway.

Are you going to price ano on the ends, or are you thinking using a metal that is less subject to corrosion?

Aluminum is fine, but since that ~has to be anodized, maybe copper, bronze, silver, titanium, composite or even steel...

I think anodized aluminum would be the cheapest and still look good as far as the rod goes.

I can build a kit with whatever rod end you all want. Red alum would look cool but I'm not the one that has to look at them ;)

Stainless would match any color paint but would cost more.

I think clear ano on the rod, and one color for the ends...either black or red.

I think to keep the price as reasonable as possible we should limit the choices. If you end up having small batches of stuff anodized it will drive the price out of sight...no?

Get a price on etching the parts with 'DMF by SMT'. ;)

Yes. My min is $100 for ano. They all need to be the same or the price would be insane.

So ends and rods/locknuts all the same color?

Rods ends come colored already. I can make the tie rods blue, black, gold, green, or clear (which is more like dirty white IMO)

I haven't thought about lock nuts yet.

I haven't seen the drawings, but it sounds like you're gonna source the ends even though they might be slightly different...which is fine.

We just need to put together a DIY kit that will work.

Howie

My vote is for clear anodized alminum.

I pretty new here, so I don't know how it all works, and maybe this is premature (not the first time for me [roll]) but maybe there should be a poll about,
a) How many people will pay cash money
b) What color, clear/black/red
c) ?

ducpainter

We need one question answered before we start a poll...

what is it going to cost.
