What heads from other 2 valvers will fit on M900 barrels ?
Doesn't matter if there's carbs or FI

Also, can a front M900 head fit on a rear M900 barrel ?
Don't mean a bolt on and run type of fit, but will the basic head casting
sit on the barrel and studs comfortably.

Yes, the exhaust and inlets will be wrong way around, I know that.

Only another 900 head will interchange (not sure about the 1000). Any year, but you must keep the orientation to work. They will interchange as far as bolt fit, but are different in other ways.

Only 900 heads fit 900 barrels and 900 cases.  Switching heads and barrels will result in a mis-match of cooling fins and the exhaust port dips a bit into the fins so you may have to clearance them in order to swap an H head onto a V barrel or visa-versa.

Also need to consider the oil passages.  Not all 900's are the same. Early models had external lines to the head where late models had internal passages.  I've got my motor torn down and am having a devil of a time finding anyone w/ base gaskets in stock for the late model bikes.

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

Been thinking of doing some mods and I prefer the pipes both facing forward like the original bevel twins, or the Harris TT2

Eyeballing the heads and running calipers over various bits it looks like it would be a close fit, so thanks, I can see there won't be too much chopping needed with those fins.

Is the base gasket any special material txduc ? Most I've seen can be cut from sheet with minimal equipment and skill at home.

interesting idea...  I want to see that outcome!  I think I like!  :)
I'm sure you figured the exaust and inlet implications...
what about just turning the rear head 180deg?
