The (supposed) back story - photo of a poorly welded transmission case. Case was damaged by dealer techs while doing a warranty engine job that required pulling the engine/trans.

Instead of telling the customer about the damage  and fixing it properly (new trans) they welded it... I'm a piss poor iron welder at best and I can see those welds are shit.

Woof...

And on a segue - What ever happened to out Porsche doc? I miss the games of what is this part and what went wrong here.

I've seen much worse aluminum welds to be honest.....

Of course, cast aluminum sucks to weld period. Porosity and inclusions in the casting can make for an interesting experience. Plus welded cast can tend to crack if stressed.....

I would say those welds are actually not bad and are quite standard for cast aluminum.

Those cases shouldn't be stressed members.

Ok - quality of the welds aside... the damage was caused by a tech dropping the trans, and they were not planning on telling the owner. That's the real point.

That I think is definitely a dirt bag move for sure. That is not equal to or better in any way shape or form unless the shop is also providing a warranty with some bonus on the side like life time oil changes with the lube choice of the owner.

wait....is that a normal run shop or is that a land rover OEM shop? cause if the later, that's a shitty make the beast with two backs ass weld for a professional shop...

A 'fully franchised private dealer' - not sure exactly what that means though.

The welds look ok to me, but I'd be boiling mad if I found out they did that and didn't tell me.

I think towards failures down the road, who's responsible then?

Anyone worried about failures down the road shouldn't be buying a Rover.  :P
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.
