I'm just glad whoever had to make the shot....made the shot.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Bean counters for the zoo will be reviewing the enclosure security as we speak. Should be naughty kid proof.

As far as I know, the zoo was in accordance with AZA standards-that is a pretty serious thing to do. I think the spec for large animals like that is no space more than 2" in the entire exhibit.

I'm very curious how the kid got in there.

When it happened a few years ago at this zoo, there wasn't much to keep a kid out.

Talking about bad parenting... a few years ago I was visiting my family in Orlando. IIRC we were coming back from a park and my daughter fell asleep on our way back. Once we parked, we opened the door for her to jump out and focused on getting the toddler out of his car seat. My daughter decided to sleep walk to someone else's apartment a few buildings down. It took less than a minute for her to walk away. We were lucky that my sister's totally confused neighbor heard us screaming her name. She apparently knocked on their door to be let in.

Sad the gorilla had to die. Very glad the kid is safe.
I DON'T blame the mother. Heck, kids are not robots and are indeed curious. The reason we take them to the zoo is to SEE the animals! The kid, wanted a closer look, the barriers weren't kid proof and he got/fell in.
I feel for the zoo too. With our selfie obsessed culture, how dare zoos erect barriers that will obstruct any view we want?

Agreed. I'm sure there will be some kind of class action lawsuit. Anyone who was there is certainly due some psychological damage money. Hell, anyone who saw the video should be good for it!

Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty, and the pigs like it...
