I kind of expected more power but the iron exhaust manifolds and un-ported heads make me think this is a milder build.

Yeah.

That engine was running on 87 octane.

They'll spec the engine however you want them to. If you want an engine built over 1000 hp, they recommend stepping up to their billet aluminum block. I'm sure that isn't very expensive.
